Year: 1998

Set: BP England '98 (Rate)

Card: #NNO Steve McManaman

“ Ah, a card for Real Football, not the North American pretender to the name. For some reason the Brits like cards using drawings of players with over-sized heads. Not sure why an oil company [BP] issued a set of cards. Interesting card. I kind of like it. ” -John Kerry

“ Cute little caricature with a reasonable likeness of the guy. Basic stats, but maybe reasonable for the sport. I wonder what size this is. ” -kents_stuff

“ This is just awesome! ” -YoRicha

“ What in the hell? ” -muskie027

“ good idea. but comes off as a bit cartoonish like triple play cards. ” -parsley24

“ One of my favorite soccer analysts! ” -mkaz80

“ I swear I thought this was a Caitlyn Jenner card at first glance. I like the back but whoever did the artwork should be fired. My 4 year old just start being able to draw people and her pictures are as good as this. ” -davidhandberry

“ Cool Soccer card. Mini sized? ” -captkirk42

I don't know how I missed this one. One of the better players of his time. He had some really good years at Real Madrid. And, mkaz80 is right. He's a good analyst for ESPN.

BP of Germany offered the German Players as well at BP Gas Stations leading up to the World Cup. So you would think there is a few other European countries with sets as the 1998 World Cup was in France. Thanks for reminding me to add to search list.

They issued these for the world cup that year if i remember rightly. Esso, BP and other petrol/gas companys issued these type of sets, sold them in there gas stations and other places. They did cards, stickers, coins sets for a long time in the 80s and 90s and i think in the 70s but i cant remember. Just like food companys ect do in the USA with cards.. Some of them was pretty cool!
