“ Front makes Steve look like he's made out of plastic or taffy....maybe even rubber. Also, I'm confused about this being a set from 1987, but the copyright years on the back say "1984." Hmmmm.... ” -Theron_Nett

“ The classic Star Co design, which was used for only one more year after this. Considering the method used for getting photos on cards back in the 80s (especially how Star did it), this is a great crop job, well-framed, and really shows the weird way a pitcher's arm bends. I wonder if that was one of his nasty sliders on that pitch. Always great to see a Star Co card pop up here. ” -vrooomed

This is one of those cases where we continually tell people the copyright date on the cards means very little. Star had copyrighted their design in 1984 and was using it through 1988, hence this 1987 set (note the "Star '87" on the front - that was part of the element that showed what year it was actually from). If you look at any Donruss card from 1983 through 1992, they all have the previous year's copyright date on them. (A lot of people confuse the 1982 and 1983 Diamond Kings cards because they both have (c) 1982 on the backs.)

Again, copyright dates are not directly correlated to the year (or season) of release.
