It's with heavy heart that I learned of the passing of Darren Daulton today. My son, who has collected all but about 10 of the cards issued during his playing days, never had the opportunity to watch him play (son born in 2003, Daulton retired after 1997 season), but I sure saw him play. I also had the pleasure to meet his wife at the time (his first wife), Lynne Austin back in 1992 (work function).
It's always sad to see someone pass at such an early age (55), and it makes it even harder when it's someone, although we never met for more than a brief moment in 1990 to get a card signed at spring training, who was part of the baseball family that you grew up with.
So, take a moment, hug your spouse, hug your kids. Remember what's important. He leaves behind his parents, his current wife, 2 ex-wives, and 4 children, and a career that took him through 5 knee surgeries, countless DL stints, 2 trips to the World Series, finally winning one as his last hurrah playing.
RIP Dutch
