I mainly try to collect through-the-mail (TTM) type Red Sox autographs that were written by the player (assumedly), and due to one transaction or another, sometimes I end up with doubles. What, if anything, are these tradeable for? Do you think another person would trade a 'Topps certified' and the like autograph for them, or are they even tradeable for non-autograph cards (if someone doesn't treat the autograph as card damage)? Of course, each person values things differently, but I'd be interested in what people might trade for TTM auto cards, if anything.

Also, I know there's the 'AU' tag for cards. Would it be worth filing an enhancement request to see if there could be a differentiation between certified autos and TTM ones? I figured it might help with trading apart from the usual notes that one could share with another trader.

I think the answer to your question is "it depends".  When trading autographs versus unsigned cards a lot more communication is required and the sharing of scans.  I've ran across some collectors who don't want their set cards autographed and others who are okay with it.  Team and individual player collectors are more likely to value the autograph in my opinion.  SCN is an online site of ttm autograph collectors and if you haven't visited that site you should give it a shot.

If you do a "Detailed add" on a given card you can note that a card has been signed IP/TTM like yours, even if it's just a base card. A number of members have done that here and put those cards up for trade. I'm sure there's people who'd want to get some of those from you. I wouldn't be interested in trading a certified auto for something IP/TTM myself, but that's not true of everybody so I think it would be worth trying here!

I have quite a few IP/TTM autos in both my collection and my trade lists. They don't trade often but they do trade. Usually it's team collectors that want them in my experience. I think that it just takes time. My biggest piece of advice is whe you add them to your trade list always do a detailed add and note that they are ip or ttm autos and don't expect to trade for certified autos or higher value cards as they really only appeal to a limited market.

The Detailed Add choice is what I have used but it only has Autographed Y/N as a choice. Adding a note, as far as I know, is only viewable by me. Since I know these are TTM autos I am not sure how helpful the note would be (unless I have a lot of autos to trade).

Is there a way for other traders to know if one has a TTM card available for trade? It seems, at this point, one would have to ask in a trade note to know one way or another.

Maybe start a second collection expressly for them. Yoiu could also put a "grade" in there for all of the signed cards as EX, and explain in your profile that cards graded "EX" are actually in-person AU cards - or something on that order.

Can't recommend SCN enough if you really enjoy TTMing. There's an incredible wealth of knowledge over there, and active trading/selling community, and postings for private signings as well as consignment opportunities. More than worth the $15/year. That fee doesn't auto-renew so it's worth the one time gamble if you're on the fence. I'd bet you'll gladly renew after the first year. There and the premium membership here is all I've ever felt was worth my hobby dollars as far as sites go.
