Year: 1982-83

Set: Diamond Classics (Rate)

Card: #11 Sam Rice

“ Sam Rice. Another Indiana born Hall of Famer. Little known fact - he started out in the majors pitching before becoming a full time outfielder. His modern day stats (i.e., WAR) don't look so great because he was one of those contact hitter pests that were great players back then, but not viewed so well now. Speaking of not viewing well, my goodness, whoever colorized his eyes in this photo just make him look really creepy. ” -bpaul14

“ This looks like almost a sloppier version of a 1909 ATC (American Tobacco Company) baseball card. ” -BasketbalHQ

“ What is with the reprints lately? They keep popping up on RCOTD. Is it because the card companies can't find anything original to do so they just reprint everything? I used to love reprints, it was a way for the masses to be able to get a hold of at least a proximity of a Hank Aaron rookie or whatever card you know you will never be able to afford. Now though every major card has been reprinted a few times and it's lost the appeal for me. The same goes for using the vintage looks on cards, the first time I saw Chipper Jones on a vintage looking card I was awestruck. 10 years later it has lost any care. I still buy a box or 2 of Heritage or Archives every year, but more out of duty than actual care. ” -davidhandberry

“ Nice Rice Reprint. Good old Senators. ” -captkirk42

“ Nice. ” -cjjt

“ "Coming up to bat, laser eyes." ” -SandersFan

“ Not bad at all. ” -muskie027

“ Love these old time photos where they painted in the color. Sometimes the painted in eyes are a little creepy. ” -Derek McDonough

105 years after his debut, Sam is still no. 1 in the Senators/Twins franchise record book for career at-bats, runs, hits, doubles and triples. And no. 2 for the franchise in career total bases, stolen bases and games played. Not a bad run….

Played his last season with the Indians, falling 13 hits short of 3,000 for this career
