1968 in Florissant, MO. 1 pack of Topps baseball at a local convenience store was 5 cents/pack.

My first card was a 1982 Topps Rod Carew All Star. Got the bug from my best friend in 1985 and begged my grandparents to buy me some at the local drug store in my town, Raytown, Missouri. I remember it like it was yesterday, Cello packs of 1985 Topps that were essentially dumped from the box into the bottom shelf in amongst a full aisle of toys. Picked two packs that cost less than a dollar each at the time (I think 59 cents).
I even remember my first double....from that day forward I have been an avid collector.

I got my first packs at the local drug store (don't remember the name) in 1964 as a 9 year old. My PawPaw spoiled me and I got 3 packs. (Topps) Pulled an Al Kaline. I was the envy of the neighborhood.

1978 Topps for me. They were 25¢ for wax packs. I remember seeing some 1975 Topps racks some time between 1979 and 1981 at a Newberrys.

I remember collecting KISS and Star Wars cards in the late 70s when I was a kid. My dad knew the owner of a local deli and his store had KISS and Star Wars cards, plus baseball and football on the shelves. The owner would give me boxes of card packs. 1978 seems to be the year I remember most when I see those cards now. I was a KISS fanatic! I remember having some of the 1978 Topps Baseball set as well as I remember the cursive writing for the team names. For football, I remember collecting the 1979 Topps set after we moved to a new neighborhood that year. My dad's deli store card connection was gone, so I was buying packs from the local Wawa convenience store with my new neighborhood friends. That was when the Steelers and Cowboys were big rivals. Staubach and Bradshaw!!! Looking at that set now brings back some memories. Like all of my childhood stuff from then, it all got lost in the shuffle.

HAPPY COLLECTING!!! - Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, Baltimore Ravens, and a few Baltimore Colts.
- 1954-2024 Topps baseball sets, including updates. I'm on a mission to complete Topps sets, so no trade is too large! Here is my Topps Set Completion Status List.
- My TCDB Completed Sets List.
- I have 51,200+ different cards listed for trade (I don't list multiples).

My first packs I bought were at a neighborhood 7-Eleven. I believe that they were 1979 Topps football packs.

I always thought my first packs were from this 1991 rugby set. However, the issue dates say it was most likely proceeded by Ninja Turtles.
There were some Garbage Pail Kids and another similarly themed sticker set thrown in as well.
Either way they came from our local dairy (convenience store) or supermarkets.
I seldom had any money as a child so it generally involved conning the adult I was with into buying me a pack. Rugby cards were an easier sell to adults than the other options. Either way my father thought I was crazy - and still does!

Yes, I remember those. Along with Mork & Mindy. Mom or I must have tossed those non-sports cards out at one time.

My grandparents and dad started me on baseball cards by buying me 1988 Topps that I spent hours sorting on my bedroom floor. I also remember someone getting me a large amount of 1992 Stadium Club. The first pack of baseball cards that I bought on my own was 1994 Series One Topps that I got at the Ames in Springfield, VT.
