Three you should definitely try:
1. Tops Diner in East Newark
2. Tick Tock Diner in Clifton
3. Rutt's Hut in Clifton
I grew near Tops, went there all the time when I was younger. I never realized how good it was until I started doing the diner thing with the wife.

I was born in Passaic, NJ so I have been to Tick Tock & of course Rutts Hut. !! Aviod the Menlo Park Diner, but Roosevelt Park behind it is a nice place to walk or jog. Many dates with my woman there , so I know the area well. It really is a small world. There is a card show this Saturday 11/18/2017 near there, the Hampton Inn off Rt 9 in Woodbridge, which is closeby. Near the PSA offices. Have never been but they say 20-30 tables. And there used to be a small card shop with a lot of vintage in Union, a half hour drive, called of all things "The attack of the baseball cards" or something like that. I might hit the show as I am planning on being in the area tomorrow. ~Greg

This site is very helpful in finding card shops. Of course you might want to try to contact the store first in case the listings are outdated, but generally the site is kept up-to-date.

There's a card shop in Lebanon on Rt. 22, which is about 45 minutes from Edison. RC Collectibles 1060 US 22.
Even closer, I hear there was recently a card shop that opened in Garwood, about 15 minutes away on North Avenue next to Quick Chek. Kessler's Corner, 250 North Avenue.

I have one of those old timey diners pretty much in walking distance of me. But, it's been converted into a furniture repair place, and has been since the 1970s. It's currently for sale or rent as the owner closed up last year.
Chuck, have you visited the Prospect Mountain Diner in Lake George? I have not been there since circa 1991. But I love the architecture of it.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. You're talking about Sunburst Furniture. A 1955 Kullman diner built in Newark NJ. I've been to the Prospect a few times before the fire, but not since. It was a 1950 Silk City built in Paterson NJ.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

WOW, did somebody say small world? I, too am a born and raised Passaic-ite. Spent many a nights eating a "late one" at the Tick-Tock and naturally Rutts Hut [my favorite!].
Haven't been back since my move to the Jersey Shore, actually try to avoid North Jersey alltogether. lol.
For the Diner travelers, if you haven't been, get to some of the South Jersey and Pine Barrens vintage stops.....for breakfast can't go wrong with Lucilles. Good eats at the Vincenttown Diner and your around the corner from me for a visit at the Stafford Diner in Manahawkin. LMK, I 'll join you!

How cool! I have always wanted to go to a place like that. Wish we had some kind of place like that here in Phoenix but I don't know of any. One of the things that stinks about AZ is that there isn't a whole lot of historical places like on the east coast. There are old western historical sites and native american sites, but nothing like what you would see in NY, NJ, MA etc.
We have a place called the Chicago Hamburger Company which is one of my favorite places. I am pretty sure it has been there for a long time. But even so, it's just immitating something that you'd find in Chicago.

So far, I've visited 445 authentic vintage diners. True diners were built in factories and shipped to their locations. I've driven across the United States, from northern Maine to Bainbridge Island (Seattle) to Arizona, to visit them.
