I do this for Buffalo Sabres and have a lot but not much from the past 7 years or so. It is mostly because I stopped buying hockey cards in general in 2014.

My main collecton is one item (card preferred) for every MLB player and manager from 1960 - 2020. This includes autographs, programs (with the player listed on the roster), photographs, minor league cards and a few "art" cards. I was finished through 2015 then expanded to 2020. I'm still in the hunt for 70ish players, with most of those having no major release mlb card. About 30 of those will be easy to find, the rest are going to be hard to find.
There are 11,251 total in my list, so I'm sitting at 99.2% done.
I doubt I will expand again as there are so many player debuting every year now - and so many of them are marginal pitchers that don't really have much of anything available.

Just thought I'd revisit this since I got so many responses last time. Since I first achieved my goal of having a card for every player (Rockies), I've never had more than 2 missing players. I'm only missing Nick Mears now.
Is anyone else working on this goal?

I am working on this same goal as best I can for the Cleveland Indians/Guardians. Unfortunately, this task is hard prior to 1981. The problem I run into is with players who may only play a handful of games with the team. The major card brands obviously don't make cards, so about all I can do is try and get my hands on minor league cards or cards of those players with other teams (if they don't break out until traded away).

I am doing this with the Cubs also. Tough! I got rid of my collection back in 1987 and I had tobacco cards and others. Wish I still had them! I started back up when my son was born in 1992. He has no interest in bb cards... Hopefully I can get one or more of his sons interested when they get older!

It's not exactly a GOAL, in a sense that I'm not actively trying to get a card for every player, but if I come across a card of a player who played for the Padres, even if it was only for one game, Spring Training, or a minor league affiliate, I keep at least one of his cards in my collection.
I have a couple of Mike Scioscia cards from when he played in Spring Training for the Padres, unfortunately, he was too injured to make the team.
I also have a Will Ferrell (the actor) 2015 Topps card from when he played for an inning in Spring Training with the Padres as part of his HBO Special.

But hey, he's in a Padres uniform, so it counts...

I collect this way for Cardinals baseball.
it is more of a casual gather than seeking out missing cards
I have a 'have' list that I keep up on, and check against when I get new cards in trades.
I am up to 1204 diff subjects so far (including minor league)
it is fun to see the binder with the many years and brands close together on a page (sorted by first letter of last name)
Like Moon from the 50s next to McCarver in 60s, next to Matheny in 2002, Molina from 2010, and the many Martinez from all eras!

The Orioles released a great set through Coca-Cola and Crown gas stations that (I think) feature every player to play a game between 1954 and 1991. It comes out to 501 unique players over the team's first 37 years. (No players included who were only in the Minors or Spring Training with the team.) Would love to see an update that covered the 32 years since...

Rather than do a team, I’ve been working on a collection that includes every pitcher to give up a home run to Albert Pujols.
