Lots of great points on either side of the discussion. If the site were only here to document cards, then adding the 1987 Donruss factory set with differently oriented backs would certainly be silly because it’s not possible to see the difference, but since the site also has other uses, this difference is important enough and prevalent enough to showcase in order to ensure accuracy for those who use the site for collection tracking and trading.
Beyond a proper explanation in the release notes, another thing that could be done is for the backs to be oriented sideways as they would be if you simply turned the card over to show how they would look in the factory set and leave the current set oriented horizontally for those who want to look at the backs without craning their necks.
There seems to be a big divide between those who want to collect and document every single nuanced variation and those content with just having any version and calling it a day. Hopefully, we’ll be able to add additional functionality to the site in the near future to try to narrow the gap between the two camps.
