Is that a different set than this one? If it is, I'll have to start checking ebay for one!

2004 Ultra (football) Lucky 13 came out with a product like that where it had a playing SN13 enclosed with a Hummer (matchbox like car). i kept them together, haven't opened.

That diecast includes this set, right?

For 1997, I only see promotions for Jurassic Park The Ride, not Jurassic Park 3, which makes sense since Jurassic Park 3 didn't come out until 2001.

Yes, this is very close to one of the things I was thinking of.  I have cards from three Toy Biz figures but from a different wave/series than that listed.  In fact, I've just 'almost' discovered what I have but need help on what to do with them.

I have three cards and just found the 'same' cards in the 1990 Impel Marvel Universe series base set:

There are two differences between these and mine.  On my cards:

1: The backs are not numbered in a Marvel box, they just have the character name centered.

2. In place of the 'Did You Know:' Fact box, there is the following text: Look for Marvel Universe Series II Trading Cards.  Available June 1991.

From what I've learned in my time here, I would suggest that this is a promo insert series, in that they came included with toys and were available separate from card packs.  And indeed there is an insert promo set for the base set. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Subsets.cfm/sid/74398/1990-Impel-Marvel-Universe---Promos

However, none of the cards listed have images so I can't compare to verify, nor are my cards listed in the insert set.  The insert set has various numbers so it is possible that the ones listed are the only numbers known about so far, and that mine could be listed now as new cards in the set, to which I could then add the pics to.

It would appear that I have permission to Submit an Insert or Promo Card but I'm not sure what info to put into the five fields.  For example, with my card #10 Wolverine analog, is this the correct type of info:

CardNum: NNO (I understand this)

Name: Wolverine (The character name here I'm guessing?)

Note: Included with a 1991 Toy Biz Uncanny X-Men Wolverine action figure (Something like this?)

Note2: 'Special Edition Marvel Universe Trading Card Enclosed' advertised on the package front (Something like this?)

Type: Insert/Promo/Proof are my choices.  Promo probably?

I could probably enter and submit this, but not having seen an example of this process before, I don't want to create something that someone will reject as incorrect.  I'd rather have someone tell me if I'm on the right track first.

Then I guess after the card is submitted, it is added to the Promo insert set, and that's when I can upload the front and back pics (which I've already been doing).

I wanted to upload pics here to show but someone said I need a third party host and I don't have that.

Thanks for any help provided.  This may be a specific example and one that not many collectors are interested in, but it does represent a concept that other members could learn from and perhaps may apply in other trading card areas one day.

Hi Sizzler-

I'm not familiar with this particular product, but I think i follow what you are describing.  Do I understand correctly that the currently listed 1990 Impel Marvel Universe set was sold in packs?  Your cards are similar in design to these, but they were included in Toy Biz figure packages and promote the 1991 Series 2 set, right?  Were the cards from the mystery promo set the only cards that were packaged in this particular series of Toy Biz figures?  In other words, are your promo cards the 'base' set, or was there another base set that these would be considered inserts of?  I took a quck look on eBay and I think the former is the case, that the entire figure series contained this promo card set, like this figure.

If all of my assumptions are correct, I would say that this set should get it's own listing in the Promo category, something like "1991 ToyBiz Marvel Universe Promos", or maybe "1991 Impel Marvel Universe Promos" with release notes for the set describing that they were inserted in packages of ToyBiz Uncanny X-Men action figures.  I'm saying 1991 here because that is the copyright date on the figure package, for the card set I would defer to the copyright date on the card to avoid confusion later on.

These would definitely be a set, not single cards, so you would have to start with the "add a set" button on the page for the set listings for the year.  In your description above, your use of the "Note" field is incorrect, see the FAQ on the subject.

This stement that you made is not accurate: "Then I guess after the card is submitted, it is added to the Promo insert set, and that's when I can upload the front and back pics (which I've already been doing)."  The first step is to add the set.  Whether it is a stand-alone set or an insert set, this process makes the set name appear in the set listing.  The next step is to add the checklist for the set, this step creates entries for all of the cards within that set.  If a card is missing from an existing checklist, it is best to submit an innacuracy report so that somone with the proper permission can add the card to the set.  If you create a standlone entry that need to get moved into a set, that creates more work that only Admin can do.  There is an option on any set's Inserts and Related page to add a single insert or promo, but that is only used to list cards that are truly one-card sets.  It's a subtle difference between adding a set with a one-card checklist and a single insert, but the site treats them differently.  For example, a set with a one-card checklist gets a 'Gallery', but a single insert card does not.  The single card insert option is usually used for various promos and advertizing cards that are inserted into packs, and sometimes for things like checklist cards that are not numbered as part of the base set.

I have been trying to piece together a checklist for the Toy Biz promos for years...have a few I got new. 

Hi Tom, I am not 100% sure that the 1990 Impel Marvel Universe cards were sold in packs, but I believe so because:

1. There are 162 cards in the base set.  There were not 162 action figures or anything else released for them to accompany.

2. In the Hologram Insert set, I bought one of those loose from my comic shop, which at the time would open packs and list cards for sale individually in a case in the store.

3. I have the 1991 Impel Marvel Universe set (which these three action figure cards probably allude to as Series II) and I bought that as a complete set that my comic shop put together from opening packages.  This was also a set of 162 cards.

4. Somebody already listed and uploaded the base set onto the site here, so in the past I assume it was verified.

That is indeed exactly the Wolverine I have that I am discussing.  I wasn't sure about linking in ebay auctions.  The tricky thing is, I know no more about these enclosed cards than that I got three of them with three figures from that figure wave/set.  If I had bought all the figures I would know if they all came with a card, or just certain ones, as well as if there were different types of cards.  What I've written is all the info I have gathered.  Three fronts exactly matching a base set, three backs partially matching a base set, with differences that suggest them being a preview/sample/promo of a current set, while also advertising the next set to be released.  I know of no Marvel Toy Biz info source to consult to gain information regarding the cards and their set nature.

Further searching online at ebay etc. may prodiuce images of the other action figures but I have not done that yet, other than the three I have.

The Promo set listed has no card pics so it isn't clear whether these should be cards added to that set, or a separate insert set.  I tend to think along the lines you are, that it may be a separate insert set, due to the numbers of the cards and the lettering system in the current insert set (3a, 3b, 62a, 62b).

I'll have to take time later to read about the notes fully but yes that was why I didn't want to create anything in the first place; causing work to remove something because I was wrong about it.  That's why I took to discussing it.

Perhaps the three I have can piece together with what you have and become an entry on the site here.

I don't know if this is a complete set of figures or just a first series, but the ad states each of the nine figures comes with a trading card.
