I have noticed that one of our members here, artistim1978, is distorting the values of certain cards by reporting multiple figures that are way above and beyond what any reasonable person would pay. He has done this to both the Roger Staubach and Joe Montana rookie cards. Is there any way to prevent this abuse of the value system?

I don't like this practice either, but perhaps it was an honest oversight where completed auction amounts of graded copies were input (without listing the card as graded in the proper area).
I have put in inaccuracies reports before for this type of thing.
I am assuming that is the preferred method for reporting such things, but will defer to more experienced members input.

Hate to say it, but this is the type of thing that makes card values the one unreliable feature of this site.....

I get frustrated by someone putting in insane prices as well. An easy fix might be just what you have started here. If you bring attention to a couple of select cards and a few members go in an d report an accurate price it could cancel out the bad price. This doesn't address the problem though if yoy have a user continuing to put in bad price data.Loo at some things like the 2016 donruss football prices. I think Score is that way too for 2016. Some crazy prices were entered but not enough members bother to go in and report a better price.

The key is the "what any reasonable person would pay." At Christmas time, a lot of people who know nothing about cards probably overpay for them. As trauty pointed out, an ungraded Montana did sell for $379.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

it is tricky too because on key older rookies conditions and prices vary so much. I looked at the Montana price here and the average price used was $49.99. That actually seems low but I think was driven by some reported lower grade prices. Maybe the best answer is the way pricing is done here it just isn't going to be very valuable and might not be worth worrying about?

I take prices on here pretty seriously. I use them when I go to shows, flea markets, and antique stores. If you see a price listed by me it was an actual price paid at auction and the condition is annotated.
Since I do use the pricing, I have come to know what users to trust when it comes to pricing. I pay attention to the details in the price report.
The member identified in the original post is one that I immediately ignore.

This happens on all sites that try to track prices. Prices jump around so much anymore it is hard to figure out what they are really worth. The cards I have put prices on are cards I have purchased. Some are higher and lower then what I think they are worth. Now do you put the total amount price and shipping?
I purchased a Auto for $2.25 after 2 great games they were selling for over $200 on E-bay 3 weeks later when he got hurt they dropped to the $12 -$15 range. 2 years later I see them selling between $8 to $20. (asking price)
Frusration set in when the prices jump around like that. If I was to sell it I would put a price of $5 to $8 on it IMO that is what it is worth.
