Hello, I am new to this site. Being completely honest, I had a few cards when I was a kid in the early 80s but I wasnt really into it.. the cards.... the game.. Well here I am, an adult, a hospice nurse and a mom. The latter is what brings me to you all today. My son was with me when I ran across a few of my old cards and he FELL IN LOVE. My son has sever ADHD. Anxiety and PTSD. He doesnt sit down and just have a conversation. But when he picked up those old cards he changed.  So here I sit.. up to my eye balls in baseball cards. I am so happy he found something he enjoys that really holds his attention. We laid on his bedroom floor for HOURS the other day, I was trying to sort and seperate and somehow find a system for the cards I got for him. The best thing of all.  He is laughing.

Welcome to the site. Thank you for posting your story, I enjoyed reading it. I'm glad your son is enjoying the hobby. Like many, I started collecting at an early age. After starting and stopping several times, I'm back at it and enjoying it more than ever. If you ever would like any advice on collecting or just converse about the hobby, you will find that there are many great, knowledgable individuals on this site. 

Great to hear he enjoyed them. Put your mailing address on your profile and give us an idea of what team or players he enjoys. This is a great group of collectors and would bet some folks here would send him a few cards to keep the interest going.

Welcome to TCDB. You have found a site where some of the most generous people in the hobby have gathered. Some will give cards, others advice, and yet others just time, but most will give here.

I would be interested in knowing your son's age, as my son is also a member here and while he's not into it at the same level I am, he still appreciates it and enjoys the hobby when he has the time (school comes first).

Thank you all for your messages. I re read what i wrote and noticed how all over the place it is. I just went on my break during my 18 hr shift so my mind is doing what it wants. Lol to answer a few questions, my son, Michael just turned 10 yesterday. He really likes the fun colored cards like the 2018 topps. He is still trying to find exactly what team he likes but so far he seems to favor the Cardinals. Mainly because thats his favorite color. And seems to be the majority of the cards he has. After finding my old cards, we saw a box at a flea market for $5 he got about a thousand cards. So he thought that was pretty cool.

Hi Candyce, welcome! That's great to hear how cards are helping your son...I have more than a few health problems myself and there are entire years of my life where my only happy memories are related to cards. I don't have any baseball but if your son would like to try the NBA, NHL or NASCAR I would be happy to send along a few. 

Great story! To me, that's what the hobby is all about. I picked up collecting again as an adult when I remembered that same sense of wonder from when I was a kid.

Hi Candyce!  Welcome!  I read your message and thought of some similarities in our situation.  I as well started a small collection when I was younger.  I have a 10 yo son with Down Syndrome, and honestly, baseball cards are something that him and I can really connect on.  It really made me smile when i read what you said about sitting on the floor for hours sorting. We've done that too.  The fun part is that my 7 yo daughter has now also got into collecting as well, and loves her hockey cards.  

Just wanted to add that even though i haven't been part site for that long, close to a year now,  This is a super group, Very helpful, friendly and these people are all about collecting and helping others build their collections
