My question would be, do we really have to re-hash this discussion every few weeks? It is well understood that there are a number of people on this site that don't care for the variations and that there are many that do. I don't care about or collect basketball cards, but do I b***h and moan that they are on the site?

I think the site does very good for collectors whether you care about collecting the letter variations or not. Knowing you can add to wantlist cards without ERR/VAR makes a major deal to a lot of people on here. Overall, I like collecting overall sets, and stay away from the rare errors cards or rare variations. It's up to people what they chosse to collect and the great thing about this site is everyone is different.

It has caused a little frusration for me at times. But I can live with it. I'm not really into them but due to the fact that 80% of my 2 way matches are only Var. I'm going for them.
One issue I see is that a lot of these cards were added before all the Var. So they have not been changed. That includes me not doing it. Just had to counter an offer as I had one missed labeled as a "C" instead of a "D" not by me but when the Var was added. I have also messaged a lot of members asking to make sure the Var is correct before I make an offer. Most of them were mislabeled.

Thankfully in hockey I don't have to deal much with these variations, there's only one set I have to rectify (90-91 UD '90' hologram). I didn't know there was a difference until this site told me, and I prefer to have all my sets the same. It gives me a sense of order.

I could probably buy the already complete sets cheaper somewhere else, but I like getting my maildays.

THis is an issue we can't fix. Unless we personally come to everyone's physical collection, look at every card, and re-classify them, they are going to start out incorrect when the VARs get added. This is one reason we preach "correct and complete" checklists to begin with. It helps to ensure that all cards get properly "collected".

I understand 100% I just brought it up so members understand when trading/buying for these cards. One must be aware of this. Members who want the card: ask first so you will not be upset. Members who have the card: verify they are the correct Var before accepting offer.
To bad most members will not read this like a lot of postings and it will bring it up again and again.
