The last thing I need to do is add to my anal retentiveness, and I feel certain I'm not alone in that on this site. But I got my 1968 Clemente today, along with a lovely little note saying that the card was pulled from a pack by the seller's uncle in 1968. And I noted to myself that one of my favorite cards is the 1973 Clemente I pulled from a pack myself. And then it occurred to me that I don't know where a lot of my cards came from now, what with eBay and gifts and trading and the passage of time. I don't care enough to try to reconstruct anything, and it would be impossible to figure out, but I was wondering if anyone keeps accurate records of how they acquired each of their cards....

I do here in the comment section. I can't do everything from in the past because I never kept track of every purchase. But since joining this site, it's been great to do everything this site is capable of. I enter date, place and amount paid. Mainly COMC, LCS, antique stores is where I buy. Some eBay too. EBay has been for full sheets, empty wrappers, empty boxes too. I usually just enter info and prices for memorabilia or autos. And graded cards I've bought too. Lower SN cards as well. Commons I don't bother. 

For my vintage, while I don't know everything card by card, I do have a great feel for where I go them. Outside of 70T (large lot on the cheap from eBay) I handbuilt each from scratch. Mind you, each is in various states of completion. I'm sitting on a pile of 66s and 67s I picked up this weekend from just 2 dealers. Same dealers that helped with my 61-73 run (really got to get started on 60 and 65). So generally no, not specific to each card, but I do remember where I got the big ticket ones from. Not just because they are big ticket, but because I got them all for a steal. 

I keep track of it in my Excel chart that I list the exact order I get everything. I only started keeping track of where it came from in 2017 unfortunately, I wish I had started sooner. 

I started because I needed to refer to a specific card someone had given me in a post on Cardboard History, but I couldn't remember who gave it to me ..so now I keep track of them all. 

I do know some of my earlier additions, but not many. I tend to remember the firsts of something and if applicable the completion cards better then the middle. 

I have kept track of the date I got every card mostly since 1999, but I was not always good about it. I have long stretches where I get overwhelmed by life or frustrated or simply put it off too long and forget. 

Recentlly put together a list of cost I paid....

Price is marked in Red (w/shipping), Blue (if gotten in store etc), Black (ebay etc and don't have shipping cost)....

Nabbed a lot of binders with multiple sets, didn't separate those, just total cost.....

Thats a great idea but it would be hard for those massive lots becasue you may have a few dups after adding your collection and then you will get them added with the other cards and bam eveything is mixed up.

I've often wished we had a way to include a date and member name with cards from our trades.  I figured I was in the minority opinion for this so I never listed it as a possible site improvement.
