I have done both, meaning some cards I want them to be slabbed and some I don’t care for. If the card is cheap, adds no value when slabbed, and I want it just for my pc, I would crack it. 

I’ve also damaged a card too, the new PSA slabs are different than the old ones. Luckily it was a cheap card. 

Thank you to everyone who replied. I think for the most part i will crack some of them out and set them free. I do have some that i will not yet because the card raw is $$$ and i dont want to risk damaging it until i know what im doing and am ok with it. I have talked with many people and in the end its my collection and I dont care if its worth anything or not. and the grading companies opinion on the condition is just that its their opinion.

I feel your dilemma.  I prefer raw cards as well because I keep them paged in binders.  I have to this end stayed away from graded cards entirely.  I am at a point in my collection where the vast majority of cards I need for my PC are 1950s and prior and are more prone to be graded.  I know there will come a point where I will ultimately have to buy graded cards either due to scarcity or because even low grade cards from this period tend to be graded.  When this happens I'm not sure what exactly I will do because my desire to have my PC organized together and uniformly is very strong.  I don't think I would be able to handle it to have part of a set raw and the other part graded.  

At the same time I also hate the idea of cracking open a graded card because even though I personally could care less I think it takes a degree of credability away from the card in terms of its potential resale value for loved ones when/if they should ever have to sell my collection.  

For me there is no one interested in cards or things i have to pass it down to so it will be me i guess in the end giving it away or selling it and by that point i wont care if they wanted it graded or not. I did last night crack some open that were just PSA/DNA signature authenticated. I thought I might have regret or other bad feeling about cracking them open. However i didn't have any i was almost happy that the cards are finally after all these years where i want them.
