I have been scanning cards in my collection that are not on this site whenever I get free time to be able to do so.  I notice though that a lot of times there is a black line on the left side of the card once I upload them to the site.

When I scan them and crop them before uploading, there doesn't seem to be that line.  However, once they are uploaded it is there.

Any tips?  Maybe I shouldn't have the card lined up in the corner of the scanner?

My scanner always leaves a black line on one side of the card.   It is simply the shadow from when the mechanism rolls over  and it does not matter where on the scanner I place the card.   As Billy says, just crop it out.

It's called Gutter Shadow.  See if you have a Gutter Shadow setting in your scanner settings.  If not, you'll just have to crop it out.

The only time I really have that problem is when scanning die-cut cards. When I move them out of the corner of the scanner, it's not there.

Another scanning question - any tips on how to make gold cards actually look gold? I spent 10 minutes messing with the brightness and contrast settings yesterday but couldn't come up with a winning formula. Was planning to add all the missing cards for http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Subsets.cfm/sid/2500/1996-97-Hoops---Rookies but I just couldn't get them to look right.
