I picked up a 2003 Donruss Champions baseball card yesterday that's the same as the cards in the database, but it's got the word SAMPLE in silver foil on the back.  Does that mean it's a promo of some sort?  Just wondering.  Thanks.

In 2003, samples of Donruss products were inserted in Beckett magazine.

They were.  They were cards inserted into beckett magazines.  It's not a full parallel set as the set only features 100 cards.

Is there a checklist of the 100 cards though?  This particular card happened to be a Cub, and since I collect Cubs I'm wondering if there are any others in the set I may need to try and find.  Thanks again.

Not sure which product cynicalbuddha is referring to. According to the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, it is unknown which 2003 Donruss Champions cards were inserted. Most of the other Donruss products had full parallel samples.

IIRC there was a "gold" variation to these where the "SAMPLE" foil was gold instead of silver.  No other distinguishing factors.  Not sure if all sets got that treatment or not though.
