Lol oh I'm sorry,, I forgot about this site for a moment and then it hit me.... my wife's hand that is ;-) 

I'm not sure if the reply from Carthage is sarcasm or serious, given the photo used for an avatar.  But presuming it was an actual opinion I wanted to chime in that we just went through this last month in a forum thread discussing team mascots.  At that time everyone posting was also in agreement that PIDs and team affilliation were appropriate.  Mascots are simply a type of cheerleader, so if a cheer card was included in a football set, then I would say a PID with links to football is the way to go.

Should a separate set be issued for cheerleading in the future, then we'll need to have the sport/non-sport discussion again.  I am not sure about the NCAA, but I know that for high schools and grade schools consider cheer and pom to be competitive sports, at least in Michigan.  Certainly there is an athletic aspect to it, and they do hold regional and state competitions.  So I'd be open to considering it a sport.  But we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Now if someon comes out with an NCAA set dedicated to Quiz Bowl, Mathletes, Chess, Rifle Team, etc.--THAT would be a forum I'd love to see debated.

although i can agree with you to a point, Cheerleading on some aspects is considered a sport- i mean, they do have nationwide competitions for them and such.. i'm assuming when you say "database" you're refering to the football section. After all there are several other cards that have nothing to do with sports that are listed. I know that when Donruss publishes the "Fans Of the Game" insert sets, it consists of movie actors/ musicians, etc and they are all in the Non Sport section. I haven't enterd the info yet, but maybe admin should make a decisison on it?

No sarcam here. I have nothing agaist cheerleading as my wife was a long time cheerleader but plain and simple it is NOT a sport. Let's not get crazy here and make PID's for cheerleaders with only their first name (like Jessica or Melissa). Come on now, if they don't have a Wikipedia page then there no relevance to adding them to the database.

Anyone with a card can have a PID, if they can be identified.  It's not an earned privilege. If Tony was able to identify them, go for it.  The cheerleaders in 2009 Topps football had at least two cards each (base and chrome). I do agree that if we have nothing more than "Susie" to go by, they don't need one, but if he figured out who they are, the PID fits site standards. No different than mascots, bat boys, referees, trainers, announcers, etc. They are part of the sport without playing it. Nobody is suggesting that we set up a separate category for the "sport of cheerleading".

The Olympics have added cheerleading for 2020. There is an entire card company that only does chess players, I found them on COMC... Didn't buy any though. 

If it is just first names, then they should not get PIDs ...Only if their actual name is listed. Just first names could be anybody really...

Don't know if anybody has mentioned this or not but with the early 1990s Cheerleaders sets, one of the first sets (Lime Rock 1992 "Pro Cheerleaders") was actually Cheerleaders for Basketball teams. So depending on sets they might have to be multi-sport. Odd of all the bulk of packs I ripped from that set I think I still have cards needed to complete the set er sets.

I just added the cheerleading squad for the Greensboro Generals the other day, listed them like a hybrid of Mascot and player. They were called The Lady Generals so I put the entire name in the Last Name slot just like Mascots but left the Y as a Y since they are flesh and blood, not fuzzy ........ lol. Hope i did the correct thing.

That's an NBA set that you reference Kirk, not multi-sport.
