1970 is very close to done. I don't do the insert sets. I think '68 and '69 won't be too bad. I'm looking forward to shopping around for a decent price on the Ryan rookie.
Since this thread has been revived, let me just take a moment give a few comments about 1971 set.
1. The airbrushed hats and numerous spring training shots are very noticeable and mildly annoying. I wasn't keyed into these issues as a 6 year old, or a teenager, for that matter. But now I see these things, and it's pretty bad. The action shots, however, are very nice.
2. The black borders and the difficulty in keeping them pristine don't bother me.
3. I love the teams cards, with history of the team on the back, and the proper manager cards.
4. I hate the stats. Previous year and career stats, without even telling me what team the person was on last year. Frustrating.
5. The player blurbs on the back are ok. Pretty focused on minor league and high school accomplishments. (Man, so many pro baseball players were outstanding, multi-sport high school athletes.
6. The set's a bit short on special sets. I like the post season stuff and the league leaders, but I like to see some other special set, like '75s MVPs or Father/Sons or In-Action cards.
7. But, oh how I love having 25-30 players per team. I can actually see who played all the positions and who was on the bench. There are cards for people who didn't play at all in 1970 because they were injured. There are cards for guys who played 14 games and had 12 AB. Each team set really shows the team, especially with the team cards and managers. I know there are more teams now, but what a pleasure to have the whole team, rather than a few hand-selected players, in a set.
Ok, now this thread should quietly die.
