That's why I try to
leave vintage out
of this
conversation. All
of the early stuff
is my favorite.
Tobacco.. the
Goudeys, all of the
Bowman Sets
(especially '55
& '51)
When this question
comes up, I assume
people mean
favorite design
because that's what
it means to me.
Choosing from Topps
is like picking a
favorite child I
suppose. '52-'56
are pure beauties,
pure art. '58-'60
the same. '64&'65
were the last truly
beautiful vintage
sets according to
me with my final
vote going to '52-
'56 & '65. Which is
why I'm happy I
only have one child
and I leave vintage
out of this
discussion. It's
much easier for me
to choose my least
favorite designs,
just imagine if I
had to choose
myleast favorite
kid. Kirk wrote: And I might agree with you if I could afford to put a set of original 1965 cards together. To me though '14 Topps Heritage strikes the right balance of traditional design combined with modern aspects, such as insert sets, relics, autographs, etc. Back in '65 that wasn't the case.

Oh, there's a clock
in my head and
despite what it
said, another one
on the wall. They
don't agree at
all...

Maybe one of the considerations I should have mentioned is affordability. I too love the old cards, however the cost of assembling a set of '50's Topps or Bowmans is not something I'd want to have to justify to the wife. "Honey, I know you and the kids would like to eat, but I REALLY need that Gus Zernial card." '14 Topps Heritage gives me the beautiful 1965 looking cards, but at relatively affordable prices.

Hope it's ok to post a reply to this old thread, but it thought it would be better than starting a new one.
I collect basketball cards, and I have a tough time choosing between 1989-90 Hoops (my first set), and 1988-89 Fleer, with its amazing font and color combinations.

Never a problem to revisit an old thread. (My first post ever revived a thread that had been dead for months). As soon as I started reading this thread again, I had some thoughts. Kept reading and saw that I wrote those exact thoughts over two years ago, so I'm consistent.
I interpreted the original post as referring to favorite set design, not favorite set that one has or might complete. My views haven't changed much since my original post, but I think the T205s have won out over my favorite "modern" sets -- the most modern I mentioned was 1975, however.

Excluding vintage, I would have to say 2017 Heritage Minor League. I love MiLB sets and this one revistited 1968, a big year for my dad, as the Tigers won the World Series then. It also had some players I saw in Bowie.

I'm partial to the 71 Topps set only because I am trying to put it together right now. But..... I acquired about 10% of the 75 Topps baseball set and I have to say they are really cool!
But to be honest, 2017 Topps Gallery is probably my favorite design yet. They have an elegant old school look that's very artistic. I will have my 8 year old son working on trying to put this set together. Hes just about finished with Topps Fire 2017 which is his first set he will ever complete.

I also like the 2017 Gallery set. Great artwork on a simply designed card. Too bad it’s so expensive, $5 per pack.

Its interesting going back to old threads and old thoughts. I'm now 27 cards (28 with a variation) away from completing the set.
My favorite set from a purely nostalgic view is 1982 Fleer. The photography sucks, but I actually like the simple design. It was the first set I really collected as a kid.
