There was one I got the other day from Target: a hockey one with 4 packs, 50 cards, and a "bonus" for $7.99 I was unconvinced until I realized that one of the packs was a fat pack of Upper Deck. So instead of 80ish cards for $8, I got about 100 for $80, plus whatever the heck this bonus was. I figured I'd go for it, since those packs should be newer, so I wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of early 90s Bowman, Score, and 7th Inning Sketch.
I ended up getting a fat pack of 80-09 Upper Deck Series 2, 2 packs of 08-09 O-Pee-Chee, and a pack of 08-09 Collectors Choice. Not too shabby. There were some decent cards in the 50, like RCs of Terry Yake and Kirk Maltby, and 4-5 nicer/newer cards, but nothing incredible. There were some base cards of stars thrown in as well, so if you're looking for just some stars, then you can't go wrong with the repacks.
My "bonus" was a Pacific insert-- one of those put-two-cards-together-to-make-a-cool-thing cards of Curtis Joseph.
Nothing mind-blowing, but I would probably buy one again.

It probably depends on how much they're charging for them. The individual card re-packs at my local Shopko are only $2.99 for 100 cards, and there's usually at least 5-10 pretty decent cards in them. The boxes with the packs is a total crap shoot. I've had ones where I got almost nothing but commons from the few modern packs and the rest of the packs you can't see were all from crap sets like 1990 Donruss and 1989 Topps and such. But I've also had a few where I got mostly newer packs, and even had one that had 15 packs in it that I ended up pulling 2 autographs and 2 jersey cards from. My favorites they stopped selling at my local stores, but they guarenteed a 1960's or older card and at least 20 from the 70's or older in addition to 200 random cards, and there were also versions that guarenteed 2 autos or 2 memorabilia cards plus the 200 randoms. I even had one of those that I pulled a 1945 Playball card in pretty decent shape from. According to Beckett that is a $75 card, considering it's shape (and it was a common).
So, if you can get them cheap, in my opinion, they're totally worth it. The cheaper ones are usually from places like Shopko and K-Mart and ocassionally Wal-Mart, but Wal-Mart can start to get a little spendy with some of theirs, and I don't know about any of the other chains, because that's all I have in my area.

I have bought plenty of the Baseball box of pack for $10 and some of the Hockey box of packs for $ 10 from Target. I find the Baseball packs pretty good and worth buying. The Hockey has been a waste. The 100 cards for $3.99 is usually just junk, although Football is better than Hockey or Baseball as they include more current cards rather than 1987 to 1994.
In Canada we have Dollarama and they have 15 Hockey Cards for $1 and these are quite good. I recommend this to anyone in Canada, there are over 1,000 Dollarama's so you should be able to find a few in your city. The Dollar Tree's I have been into do not sell cards in Canada.
Wal-Mart repackaged stuff has not been good.

I like them. Sure you don't get super gems but you do get some pretty good stuff. And if you are like me and just have a bunch of odds and ends for almost every Topps Flagship set but hardly any complete then these are great.
On one of my 250 Card Cube purchases the two unopened packs showing on the ends were a 2011 Topps Chrome pack and a 2008 UD Masterpieces pack. I got the cube mostly for that Masterpieces pack still need to finish off the base set. And I got a hit a Jose Reyes Captured on Canvas 4 color swatch.
http://captkirk42.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-fairfield-repack-250-card-cube.html - The scan of the Reyes has a strand of hair that was on the scanner bed, and a piece of something that was actually on the card but I managed to remove without damaging the card. Pretty sure I still have that card somewhere. Not sure where I have it exactly at this exact moment. Thinking of tossing it up on the bay. If I do I'll have to rescan it since my original scan has those blemishes.

Well I took the plunge and spent $4 at my local Target and picked up a pack of 100 cards. It was fun perusing all the cards from different years, sets, etc. The oldest card was a 1980 Topps Royals prospects card. The cards I like the most are the '92 Conlon Bill Terry and the '10 Topps Checklist featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The biggest hit from a Becketts standpoint was a '95 Topps Traded 18T, which is a UER RC for Carlos Beltran. Becketts says a mint one is worth $10. All in all I'd have to say it was well worth my $4. You get lots of junk, but even the junk wax cards are fun to look through. Plus, there are the couple aforementioned gems. I may need to visit Target more often.
Somebody had mentioned Dollar Tree as having repackaged cards, but I visited one and couldn't find anything. Same goes for Wal-Mart. So far the only ones I've found are at Target.

Now you guys have done it. You've gone and got me hooked on repackages. A couple times a week during lunch time I find myself wanting to eat near Target so I can run in and grab one of those $4, 100 card packages. They're sort of the ultimate thrill when it comes to collecting because you have no idea what you might get. Plus, there are usually at least a few cards in each repackage that make them worth the money.

I've found some
from the Dollar
Tree but you
usually only get 5-
10 cards on average
for $1 and the best
card is usually on
top. But the
plastic is loose so
kids get ahold of
them and ruin the
corners. I have
gotten a couple
that were worth it
though. Tempted to
try and bigger
value box from
Target or Wal-Mart
now lol

Try as I might I've never seen any at Wal-Mart. The other type I've seen at Target usually have ten packs of cards for $12. I did that once, but the repacks for $4 are more affordable and are easier to take a chance on.

I don't see them at Walmart either. Usually Target or Kmart for me.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
