So I just received a small order from eBay. Came in a PWE, which is fine. It was a $2.50 purchase with free shipping. The cards were sandwiched between two postcards depicting Washington, D.C. So I thought that was fun, because that’s where I live. But they also had personal messages on them and were post-marked from 1950 and 1952! Apparently, the price of sending a postcard went up from one cent to three cents in that time — a 200% increase in two years. Neither card has a zip code. One just has a name and a town as the complete address. Mary likes DC, and her career is moving very fast in 1952. Barbara was on vacation in 1950, and having fun, but trying not to overdo it.
Interesting way to recycle. I was so intrigued, I haven’t even looked at the baseball cards yet.

That's interesting, a little bit of extra history along with your purchase.
...and yes, ZIP codes wouldn't be in use for another decade yet, they were rolled out nationally in 1963.

Man, that is a cool way of protecting cards. If you found cheap postcards somewhere, it could be fun to do.

Before zip codes, many cities had "zones" after the city. For instance "Buffalo 10, New York"

That's even memorialized in the old Elvis song ...
"Return to sender, address unknown; no such number, no such zone."

I remember the PSAs on TV with Mr. Zip telling us to use Zip Codes.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

There is a market for old postcards! Keep them protected.

Would you be part of that market? Because I'm happy to part with them in a small trade....
