Let’s pretend that newer members (or all for that matter) can and do read the guidelines. I’ll ask again, what systems are in place to warn users after a certain amount of rejected uploads that they are not adhering properly to the rules set?

I don't know that there is a warning system in place for rejected uploads, yet if they go to the link under one of their collections titled, "Cards in your collection that are missing images," they will see all the ones flagged as needing a replacement image. That's the only way I know that one of my images has been flagged...no notifications are sent and as far as I know there is no current way to prevent repeat offenders from doing it again unless someone, such as admin, turns that feature off for that individual...I assume.
Regarding those that ignore the guidelines...I'm sure a lot of people could come up with great suggestions on this topic on how this could be or should be handled, but it would be much easier if people would adhere to the guidelines. Quality control is only as good as the people who abide by the site's standards. Unfortunately, people are going to upload images that do not meet these requirements and because of this the site has implemented a way to reject and flag images. Again...we are all a member-based community, and all members need to adhere to the site standards or simply not upload images.

As far as I can see the only warning is if a member messages the person who uploaded an image. Letting them know their images are not to standard. I thought that you had to have a X of number of images approved before you could add images without approval.
One problem I see is that the image may look good to one person but not to another member.

Just had to mark over 200 submissions as Photographed, two of which had thumbs in them. Ridiculous.

I rarely go to the crop queue anymore. I refuse to do anything that gets those images on this site even if it comes up as needing replacing.
I say just let them sit in the queue forever.

Dan, I think it’s safe to say this is an argument against crowd sourcing not photographs for images.

That's not a problem with crowdsourcing, that's a problem with some members ignoring the rules for image submissions. And while some good enough photos can sneak through, we keep getting some truly awful images that make you wonder what folks are thinking, like leaving cards in one-touches and photographing them at odd angles, photos of cards near piles of other cards in the background, photos that look like they were taken about 20 feet away, and members actually holding the cards in their hands.
It used to be easier to deal with as we could tag the worst images and they wouldn't get added, but now I believe watermarked images are the only ones that get reviewed by Admin (along with scans of the wrong card, for which we have to provide a link to the correct location). Everything else gets added but tagged for replacement, meaning more and more ridiculously bad images remain for all to see. That's apparently Admin's preference and I'm respecting his rules.
But since most members seem to be able to follow the rules, it's not simply a crowdsourcing issue.

It comes down to respect for the site. I didn't do anything before first reaching out and making sure I was doing it right. The info is out there if you want to know it.

OK, this made me laugh. If we did need undershirts and feet, this would be an entirely different website!
