I want to say a big thank you to everyone for the recent comments. This is one of the reasons why I love this website.
It's been a few days since my last post and I wanted to respond to some of the comments since then.
I have not yet had a chance to read Billy's post on scanning tips, but I definitely will. Billy is one of the key contributors to this website and value his opinion and website tips.
As for racking up cheap points on the website, that's not my motivation. I have been on the website for 1.5 years and still have under 1,000 points. I typically only scan cards from my own collection where no scans previously existed. Again, another benefit of this website, it allows me to enjoy my own collection when I am not at home.
I always take pride in my work and I also take pride in an efficient process. Without getting into some of my crazy habits and the reason behind them, it took me a little while to get to the settings I mentioned earlier. For the dimensions of the scan, I started at the normal card size of 2.5" x. 3.5" and changed the custom settings incrementally by 0.01" for each scan until cropping was not needed (2.45" x 3.45"). For my scanner, manual cropping was still required vertically and horizontally at 2.46" x 3.46". Setting the scan at 300 dpi combined with the cards size of 2.45" x 3.45" creates a jpg of about 950 Kb, just about the largest photo you can have below the 1 MB limit.
It's been a month or so since I have uploaded any scans but am always looking for ways to improve. One of my last scanning batches was from this year's NHL Upper Deck centenniel set which is now at 100% images added (link to recent scans: http://www.tradingcarddb.com/RecentlyAdded.cfm?Member=vanoirm). If the scanning quality is not up to par, I am willing to replace them myself.
Once again, thanks everyone for information. got back into collecting after a 15 year hiatus and this website is a big part of why.
Thanks, Mike.
