Well, one completely unimportant goal of 2018 was to stay in the Top 200 (by volume) baseball card collections on this site. Today, I fell off the list. A couple years ago, I was at 100, when the list was only 100 people long. Then, miraculously, Admin expanded the list to 200, and I survived! But I started this year at about 188, and never really had a chance to remain up there. I suspect I'll return in a month or two when I get the 2018 Topps set, but it won't be a long run. It's hard to increase volume when you often only buy two or three vintage cards a month. If only I collected all the colored parallels...
Admin never adopted my suggestion of three lists: pre-1980; post 1979; and grand total. Because it's unimportant and not practical.
And my plummeting down the list is also just a reflection of how many more people have joined this great site. So it's all good.
Regardless, I love my collection and style of collecting, as I hope you all love yours.
I'll just have to stay on the lists by continuing steady forum posting.
Signed,
#201.

I got knocked out of the top 10 non-sport a while back for the same reasons as you- lots more people joined the site and I slowed down on my collecting. While it would be nice to get back into the top 10, it would mean buying a few hundred more cards and keeping up that pace, and I'm happy with the current growing rate of my collection.

I lost #1 in NBA. Didn't think that would ever happen...even though I average about $40 a month on the hobby. I thought I had so many that I was going to be #1 forever. Nothing I can do about it, unless I win the lottery. Maybe I should play the lottery?
At least I still have #1 in auto racing. #9 in non-sports. #24 overall. I didn't check hockey since I'm still so new to it but now I'm second guessing my choice and am off to check it as soon as I hit post.
What I would like to see is the top ten collections being more active. Most of them I've never seen participate on the forum. Keep in mind also if Dave S. Ever makes his collection public I'm pretty sure he will be #1.
I'd also like to see the stats of who has the most multi-sport cards. I'm probably at the lower end of the top 10 but I just don't know.
These numbers all come from the stats page.

Ah yes, the ol' "Stats" button should be a dead give away! Thanks Dan!
Sincerely,

The only thing that I think I am really ranked in is forum postings, although I haven't really been on the forums a whole lot lately.

The collection Stats pages are interesting, but I don't put a lot of stock in them. As Billy pointed out, there are people with large collections that don't track them here. There are also people who mark cards as in their collection that they don't own. I came across a 'member' once that had every Jeff Gordon card that was listed at the time marked as owned - TWICE. Even the 1/1's!
I also thought that the "Most Common Cards in Members' Wantlists" stat was interesting, unil I got to the Racing section and saw that the the #1 card there is a common base card that is at the top of the list because one member has it on their want list 156 times. #2 on the list is probably legit with 7 wants, all by different members.
I rarely even look at the collection stats pages anymore, until a discussion like this pops up.

I don't put too much stock in the numbers when it counts when you put multiple copies in. If I wanted to enter all my duplicates into my collection, that's about 75,000 more cards I would estimate, I would probably move myself into the top 10 largest collections. But to me that's disingenious. I have them, but they aren't part of my collection.
It's fun to look at though...
