I do agree with that, Billy and David! I have been mostly adding scans of specific drivers in Racing cards. Sometimes I add an entire set all at once though. If I add the front and back for every card in a set, I should still get to pick the 'sample card' if there isn't one yet. I can understand now why I don't get to pick it though.
As for "one or two people as the example"; isn't the whole point of a "sample card" to show what the set looks like?! I have noticed several times that an entire set has complete front/back scans and is listed as a gallery, but still has no "sample card". How can that happen without the submitter of ALL scans having a say in what sample card shows up?!

Yes, every sample card should not be a major start. Doesn't have to be Griffey, Mattingly or Bonds. Nothing wrong with commons being the sample as long as it is a good solid card.

I think a card that "represents" the set or what it is most famous for. Usually, the most valued rookie card in the set. Sometimes a famous (or infamous) error card; i.e., 1989 Fleer baseball Billy Ripken "error". Many times I (and others) refer to certain sets by a rookie card contained within. For example, I'll refer to the 1984 Topps Football set as "1984 Topps, Marino rookie set".

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Celtic, it takes 25,000 points, OR 3 years + 10,000 points

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Totally agree with NJDevils and Billy. Mix it up, but use a card that represents the set well too. 1985 Topps baseball has the McGwire USA card which, though the most famous card in the set, is a horrible choice because only 10-15 cards in the set have that design, so it doesn't help a novice trying to identify a card. I think two of the Classic Four Sport sets use a checklist as the sample card, which look nothing like the regular cards of the set. The sample card should foremost be a card that helps a user identify the set.

I should point out that I realize it may be impossible to program the site to recognize a 100% scanner and override the points limitation on a case by case basis. It was merely a suggestion. Not something I'm adamant about!! I rarely scan 100% of a set anyway. This case just happened to be a Cardinals set, and Martinez has been lights out since Wainwright went down.

There are some iconic cards that should be sample cards as they can be recognized by even some who do not collect that particular sport which can be helpful. Like for the 1994-95 Finest it would be #240 Grant Hill. For parallel insert sets the same player should be used like in case of 1997-98 Z-Force Boss and Super Boss, so someone can instantly tell what is the difference between the two sets and which one he/she has. There are some sets on this site where the sample card is from a subset which is never a good idea especially if it is a short print.
