A true collector doesn't care about pricing. We are a database, not a marketplace. It shouldn't be on here, and the ability to turn it off is one of my favorite things Admin has implemented. Honestly, if I had realized there was a price feature when I started entering my collecting and contributing to the site, I might not have done either. Luckily, I didn't realize it until later and by that time I had already entered my entire collection.

I personally like having the pricing function on this site. I enter the 'book value' for most of my cards on here when I add the card and scans. That is just for my own collection information.

I don't like that some random person can completely affect how it shows up though. I ran across this again just after Christmas when I was adding my cards from a box-break of 1995 Action Packed Winston Cup Preview cards. Someone has listed the Dale Earnhardt #7 card with a value of $199.00! The book value for that card is $3.00!!! I'd be lucky to sell my duplicate for even just the BV, but there is NO WAY an intelligent collector is going to pay nearly $200 for a $3 card!

I agree with others here that there should be a minimum points limit before you can add values to any card.

Just a few friendly reminders to anyone concerned with pricing issues:

MOST IMPORTANTLY, as Billy mentions, if pricing is not your thing, simply turn it off, done.

The price shown on a card's page is only an end product of all member's entered prices, not a scientific/mathematic conclusion to convince any reasonable collector of a "fair" price.

From the pricing FAQ:  Every member also has the ability to override the site's pricing when it comes to their own collection.(italics mine)  When looking at a set in collection mode, if you click "Update Pricing" on the right, you can enter in your own pricing instead of using the site's prices.

The best thing I like about this site is that I can create and record my collection exactly the way I want, without even remotely unreasonable restrictions taking the fun out of collecting.
