I have an idea for a new feature that I will put out there...family links on a person's profile page.
Sports tend to run in families, Some families have multiple members with cards- The Earnhardt family in NASCAR has almost 20 members with cards over 4 generations, the Barry family in the NBA has 6 members with cards in three generations, and so on.
My vision is this: On a person's profile page, in the are where information like date of birth, college, etc is, could we have a feature to link PIDs to their family members? Ideally there would be a dropdown box where we could select the relationship and then enter in the PID of the person, and then it would show up on both pages. Example: On Rick Barry's page, on the dropdown I would select "son" and enter the PID for Brent Barry, and I could then click on Brent's page and see "Father: Rick Barry" there, with the name clickable to take me to the other person's page.
Dropdown options needed would be: son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, cousin, grandfather, father-in-law, son-in-law, neice, nephew.
By using PIDs, people across sports could be linked: Calvin Hill of the NFL is Grant Hill of the NBA's father, Barry Larkin's son Shane is an NBA player, and NBA Player Popeye Jones' son is a hockey player, although I don't know if he got cards. Musician Reba McEntyre's son Shelby Blackstock has cards in Racing, but I don't know if she has cards. Just some examples, there are many, many more.
I often wonder when I look through the name listings if people with the same last name are related- let alone people with different last names who are related! This system would remove any question.
Thanks for listening.

You must have been reading my mind, Billy! I've been meaning to bring this up myself.

Turning off trading because my collection is in complete disarray after moving and I don't know when I can get it organized.

Sounds like a good idea to me, Billy. I thought about it briefly during the 2nd round of the NCAA basketball tournament. I didn't know Calvin Hill was Grant's dad until the announcers said it during the Duke/Yale game. For those that don't know why it came up, Calvin went to Yale and Grant went to Duke. Grant's son is also playing basketball in the NCAA. Grant Hill is my favorite Duke player ever and one of my faorite NBA players ever too.
NASCAR certainly has a long list of family members that were racers, owners, crew chiefs, engineers, etc. The Petty's, Allison's, Jarrett's, Wallace's, and Cope's come to mind quickly. Then there are the Elliott's, Truex's, Andretti's, and Mears's.

I didn't know Grant's son was in the NCAA. That makes me feel pretty old, LOL. What's his first name?
I am glad to hear I am not the only one who is interested in this sort of information.
My family is big into geneology...we've found some amazing stuff, which I will someday fairly soon (hopefully) make a User List (and blog post) about...and it translates into thinking about the family links among the athletes I like to learn about.

I like this idea a lot, it reminds me of a wrestling site I visit often called cagematch that has this implemented. Its real interesting if your bored just to follow the links and see where you end up.
I'm sure I could learn about a lot of families with links. Especially in NASCAR. Start with Davey Allison and spend a day looking at cards of all the Allisons.

For some reason, I can't remember his name or even where he's playing.

Yeah, it would take a month to connect all the related wrestlers. But what a good month that would be!
On Billy's genealogy topic, something set up like "Find A Grave" has for relatives would be amazing. I also journey down that road.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

It'll take more than a day! :-D
Quick rundown of what I know. Bobby and Donnie Allison started racing NASCAR in the 60's. They are brothers. Bobby's wife is Judy and they had 2 children that raced cars, Davey and Clifford. Clifford died after a racing crash in 1992 and Davey died after a helicopter crash in 1993. Davey and his wife, Liz, had two children Krista Marie Allison and Robert "Robbie" Grey Allison. All four of them are featured on several NASCAR cards in the early-mid 90's. Donnie Allison and his wife, Pat, have 3 sons that were all car builders for BGN and WC teams, plus a daughter. Their daughter Pam was married to Hut Strickland and they had at least one child. For more info, check the 1993 Action Packed checklist for "The Allison's" subset, card #'s 140-149. There's more info on those, including info about Bobby and Donnie's parents.
Also, earlier I completely left out the Bodine's and Labonte's in the family list. Kind of surprising I didn't think of them during that last post, especially since they are more recent than most of the family names I listed before.

I only collect one race car driver, Larry Foyt, but he'd be involved in relationship linking.
