It's not for everyone. As I stated above, four years ago, my collection isn't organized in a way that makes entering my cards a quick process. I've quit and started over so many times, because it's not all that important to me to have an inventory of my collection. But it can be fun to see my numbers go up on certain players and sets.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

It sounds easy to just to allow us to input excel or other spread sheets into the database. It is not.
I have worked in documentation and databases for years. I went through 2 compltete changes of databases. It take months of a large team to write the code so we could input database A into database B. Then several month to verify and clean up all issues. We run 2 systems for months to ensure there was no problems that was a real pain.
I will bet your spread sheet is diff then mine the way it is set up. So who's spread sheet do we use.

But if there was a template it would still save a lot of time to reorganize a spreadsheet if you could enter it in. I can see the reason for not being allowed to export from the site (create a competitive website) but not as much for importing... except the work which I dont know how to do ...so who am I to minimize it! Thankful for everyone who has done the work to get us to this point!

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

I would echo Jason's and Mark's comments. If you haven't tried out the site, don't be so quick to discount it. Most who come here start off reluctantly in starting anew but once they find all the features and possibilities, most get hooked. There is a reason that some members are still here after ten years. They are the ones who tried it, and liked it. The members who are here for a cup of coffee did not give it a good go.
I still have excel spreadsheets that mirror my set collection here but that is so I can print certain sheets when attending card shows or flea markets. The use of "Detailed Add" to enter SN, condition and comments is something that is not as well defined when creating a spreadsheet.

Added my collection of almost 98K manually here and there over a few months without any imports, but a lot of it is complete sets, making it much easier to catalog

I should point out that we are all replying to a post that is four years old, and in the time since then, the OP has added over 130,000 cards to his collection here.

Yes Admin could make a template that would match the database for inputting
The issue with that you would have to input even thing exactly how it is in the database or it will not go to the right place. We see it now when some one misspells a players name.
So if you have to input and verify every entree it will take longer.
It take me years to get my excel file where it is now. I exported from a lot of diff sites. They appeared to look good. The issues come when I tried to sort or move stuff around. I find that on most of the inputs the formats of the rows and Columns were diff. Some was easy to fix ((type & size of print ). Hard was not see some of the spaces the was there. (was there one or 2 or no spaces after this title) I find a lot of titles being diff.
So there are ways to speed up your input. Doing sets or if you have most of a player add all of hem and move the ones you do not have to your want list.
Yes it is 4 years old. But maybe some newbie will see it and will not post a new one.

David, you're right. However, it was brought up today by a member who has been here for three years and only added 600 some cards to his collection, hence my rebuttal.
Everyone here uses this site to fit their own agenda. We are lucky that it fits so many of us. However, I don't think it's fair to express complaints about a site that result from a lack of understanding of it (whether willingly or involuntarily).
I doubt the OP is looking for any of this advice anymore; however, maybe it could help another new member?

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Oh you're fine Jason. I'm just making sure people are aware that some of the replies are old. Not an argument on my part, just an observation.

On a different note: I was in this thread almost 4 years ago. At the time had entered 301,000 cards. Now at 424,000. Trading more actively, slowed down the input of the remainder of my for sale trade cards, which includes basketball, football, and hockey. Still hope to get them entered.
