Only because I've seen some shoddy checklists uploaded very recently, I think some reminders need to be out there.
Please make sure of the following before uploading the checklist:
- Names are in the First Last format. (Yes, a checklist wasw added today (12/12/16) with it in Last, First format)
- For sports with teams, pleae include the teams
- For cards with memorbilia, use MEM (not Mem)
- For sets that have cards with serial numbers, please make sure you have the numbers correct (a set went up yesterday or today with most of the serial numbers incorrect)
- "/" is not a valid separator in the Note field. A comma is. This also means that if a card was SN out of 1000, please mark it as SN1000, not SN1,000 - that makes the system think you put in "SN1" and "000" - 2 entries, not the 1. Just because Beckett has the listing as GM/HC, doesn't mean we do that - please make it GM, HC.
- For multiple names, the "/" is the only valid separator. And please put spaces on either side of it (ex., "Tony Gwynn / Greg Maddux").
- The same goes for multiple teams.
- If there is info that is to go into the Note (or Note2) field, please ensure it is NOT in the name.
- If the Note info is NOT abbreviations, it belongs in Note2. (An example of this is the buyback autographed cards, where there are several of a player from multiple years. This goes in Note2 - "1991 Topps #345". It does not go in Note. "AU" and any SN or PR info (if available) goes in Note.)
- "MAS" is the correct notation for a Mascot in the Note field, not "Mascot".
- And please, if you enter a set that has Note info, please go to the glossary and enter the definitions for the abbreviations that missing that info.
- Please remember to validate all the names in the checklist you upload.
- Please remember to validate all the teams (if applicable) in the checklist you uploaded. If a team name won't link, send a message to Admin so the team name can be added to the database.
I have seen almost ALL of these things in the last week. I have sent a couple of private messages on some of these. I have tried to fix all of these (or I asked Admin to handle a couple things I couldn't or it would be simpler with the the tools they have).
I understand getting checklist info together is tough. I've done it. I've also messed up some checklists. But I also fixed them.
Thanks for reading. Hopefully, this helps clean up some stuff before a certain few of us have to go through and clean it up afterwards.

Nice post, Dan. I hope LOTS of members read this!!! I do all of the things you mentioned here, but I still learned something new. I didn't know about the Mascots thing. I have yet to come across that, but I know I will when I finally get to working on something other than NASCAR cards. Numbers 11, 12 and 13 are most important to me at this time. They are so easy to do and should be done as soon as the CL is posted! So many people think they are done when they add the CL, but that's just the beginning.

This should be pinned somewhere that everyone has to read before they are allowed to upload a checklist. I've seen a LOT of NBA checklists uploaded lately where the uploader was too lazy to include any SN information at all. This is especially frustrating when the cards are not all SN to the same number...somebody, probably me eventually, is going to have to go in and fix each one manually at some point. Don't be the guy who gets a reputation for doing it wrong. Normally I stay on top of the checklists so I can ensure it gets done correctly but I've not been feeling well lately so it's kind of slipped away from me.
One more thing to add: Don't trust printed checklists, even those issued by the companies. The inserts usually don't match the numbers given, for example Panini gives numbers when the real cards have letters. Don't upload a checklist until you can find an example for sale on Ebay or COMC or wherever that shows the back of the card, unless you have an example in hand. Beckett and Cardboard Connection just copy the checklists from Panini without actually checking so they are both wrong most of the time as well.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. We all make mistakes, heck I'm constantly talking to Admin or asking for help on the boards, I strive to get better with each checklist but errors do happen, as long as we can let one another know and help eachother out, we will continue improve the site. I know for a fact that my checklist skills are not near 100% and for that reason I apologize for any errors I may have made as well.

Also, teams DO NOT get assigned PIDs; only TIDs.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I...I...confess. I uploaded only my second checklist ever last week. I used a / between names without a space on either side of it. I shall endeavor to improve.
I was so proud to call that set my own, too. I scanned every card.
Sigh....

It still works when you do it that way, v3. Until very recently, I had always done them that way too (no spaces). It doesn't create an error that anyone has to go back and correct. I think that they are just suggesting that it looks better with the spaces. So be proud of your set!

Along those lines, if we see a card upload that is a blatant photo rather than scan, how do we correct it? Report to admin to remove uploaded image?
