When you enter the card in the database, it will link to the existing Ryan Smith. As far as I know, there's nothing you can do to stop that. However,
Once the card is there, turn editing on and click the "edit name" link.
On the Edit Name page, under "Linked to PID:", clear the field and click the Submit button (the lower Submit button, not the one in the Edit Name area). This will remove the improper link and return you to the card page. Now you can click "edit name" again, and this time click on "Add New Name".
On the Add New Name page, the first and last name fields should automatically populate with "Ryan" and "Smith" respectively. Add some designation to the "Differentiation" field (and DOB if you know it) and when you click the Add button, you will have your second Ryan Smith identity.
In my experience, the card record may now automatically link back to the original Ryan Smith, so check the link again. If it is still linked to the wrong one, go back to the Edit Name page and put the PID for the new Ryan Smith into the "Linked to PID" field and submit.
If somone knows an easier way to add another person of the same name as an existing PID, I'd like to hear about it.
