The site awards for 2017 are coming in January 2018. Members will get to vote for winners in a bevy of categories and others will be selected based on contributions to the site. January 2018 will also mark the 10th year anniversary of the site. As a countdown and retrospective, each month we’ll review the stats and present the awards as they would have gone down (minus the categories based on features that weren’t available yet or the ones that require member voting). Last month, we looked at 2008. This month, we look back at 2009.
2009 – A Look Back
The membership and submissions continued to build, the site receiving six times the amount of traffic from the previous year. Player pages were added for Racing and Soccer plus the ability to filter by set type was added to player pages. Team pages were added, for the first time giving the ability to browse by team. Under sets, the “Teams” and “External Links” areas were added. The FAQ page was created. The “About.com” hobby articles were replaced in favor of blogs during the year and the ability to browse your top rated sets was added.
Here’s a screenshot of what the site looked like in February of 2009 courtesy of the Wayback Machine:

As we go through this, it's interesting to see names that were big time contributers at the beginning but were pretty much inactive by time I joined in 2012. I wonder where they went? Are they still collecting? Maybe they ran out of cards to post? I actually do wonder about this.
Edit to add: it's because of the blog roll on here that eventually led to me starting mine. I didn't start reading them until late 2013 or (more likely) 2014 but I enjoyed reading them and decided to start one of my own, in November 2014. Now I have one for each of my main hobbies.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Cardboard History My COMC New Collection Website: Cardboard History Gallery (Still under construction) Tips on how to make your scans look like the card does in hand (No more washed out, fuzzy scans!):

The trade-up saga for Mickey Mantle was a fun thing to follow. Sort of odd to see my name attached to Racing. Must have been all those Robert Pressley cards.

I thought it was odd to see your name beside of Racing too. I'm guessing mine will show up for Racing in a few more months when the threads for 2015 and 2016 get posted. If it doesn't, I'll be a bit surprised since most of my points have come from Racing cards. I've only been here for 2.5 years though and still haven't managed to add most of my collection on here OR the scans for anything that's still missing. Congrats to all the award winners!

That quest for Mantle was fun to revisit, as I remember reading it once I joined the site. Maybe someone on this site should start a similar challange either until they reach the end goal, or until the anniversary of TCDB hits. Maybe if the person doing it is willing, could then sell the final item/card with them keeping half, and donating the other half to the Database.

I remember reading the Mantle Trade quest when I first joined. I'll admit, some of those trades I wouldn't have made! It was a fun read, and I thought of doing something similar, but with the goal being getting the oldest card I could as opposed to an iconic card like the Mantle. Perhaps I'll revist the idea when I need something to blog about.

Yes, Billy, some of us oldtimers do run out of cards to input. Good that there always seems to be a new group of big-time inputters. Nowadays I am happy when I find one or two that I havent put in or one from the occasional new packs out. Keep it up!
