Okay, I understand how the median price thing works, but if you have someone putting in .25,.25,.25,.25,.25,.25 and then othe people enter prices 1.75, and another person enters 2.00 and another one enters 2.25 and the price afterwards is still .25 then I don't see how thats working. That's all I'm saying.
I use the prices of cards if the trader seems to be relying on them and sometimes when I'm not sure of the value of a card. I was out of the loop for many years and sometimes there were players who's cards are worth money and I am not aware of it, so I will look through the book and at least get an idea of what I'm giving them. I do want to be fair, usually I worry about not giving them enough. I am more than happy to do card for card...I like the pink and purple numbered ones and have a lot of commons. Just kidding. I don't mind giving up a decent card for one of lower value if I really want the card, is all I'm saying.
As far as who this person is just look at the 2008 Upper Deck Heroes section. It's the person with all the entries of the low prices. I hope I'm wrong about what this person was doing, but I doubt that I am. It was all way too coincidental not to be intentional.

I am the one who put in the 20 cent prices on the 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes set. They seem to be the lowest prices on there. However, I am not involved in any trades with terrbear5951. I put lower prices in general because I think the prices are too high in general. If I have a modern card on my for sale/trade list i generally list it as half of what the median price is. If this is wrong and members want me to list the median price going forward I will. Please note however, that I do not trade modern cards (Post 1980 ). I only trade vintage cards. Hope this helps explains things if I am the one at fault here.

I'm fairly new here. The only time I have posted any prices at this point is if I had cards I was willing to sell and I posted what my asking price would be which seemed quite a bit lower than what the price guide showed. I put litle value in the pricing because it seems way too high.

I have only added prices to cards that I purchased through ebay, or Topps Now. I do notice that when I add cards for trade or sale, a price automaticaaly shows for some of them. These are by no means my asking prices if I were to sell. Somtimes there are two different prices for the same 2 cards, which I do not understand.

I tend to agree that most asking prices (and those in the guides) are way too high. But that is how the "demand" part of supply and demand works. I see all these modern cards listing for over $100 and ALWAYS wonder Who is buying these cards at these prices? How can they afford them? I get the people that do flipping they buy a card, turn it around and list it for more than they paid for it. OK that part I understand and if you have enough to buy the initial first card you have the affordability handled. However, not everybody buying these cards are flippers, and many really can't afford to buy what they do. Maybe they just charge their credit card.

Most modern cards are overpriced and can be found on sportlots.com generally for 18-cents. (Gwhy11, you're fine with the prices you post as far as I'm concerned.) I don't look at median prices generally when trading except when my trading partner requires it.

I'm with Billy, just shut the price thing off, I have a spreadsheet for Mr Ranford and I don't even bother using the DB. I overpay for some things when I really want them, and personally use shipping as a factor as well so "my" prcing is not even the same idea as to what the DB uses as a policy. I just don't bother.

Classic case of modern cards prices severely skewed, http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/3282/cid/851786/1992-Action-Packed-56-Emmitt-Smith median price shows $4.00. It's on my Want List, but also on my Sportlots birthday list and it sells for 30-cents in NM condition.

I turned off the pricing on the site when I joined as well. I just found it to be far too inconsistent to feel it gave any value.
As others have said I could see using a third party pricing tool to help value a trade if both parties feel a need. For me it is much more of a feeling thing. The pricing on this site is unreliable and should never be used for this purpose. Clearly just my opinion.

Am I wrong or are the prices there as a way to see what someone has either paid for a card either retail or at auction or what a person has seen the card sell for. They take the median price because one person could have seen the card go for 1.00 where the next person could have seen it go for 1.50. It's not there for someone to put the price they think the card should sell for. If someone doesn't like a player he's more apt to think his cards are worthless and just put down a nickle and the card could have been selling for 3.00. It's just a reference tool, but it should be a fairly accurate tool if done correctly or at least give the latest going price of each card. I can see now why people turn off the pricing on this site.
