Whew. I've been trying to add a few checklists to this site. I think I've done a total of five now, two modern, three very vintage cards. The modern ones went smoothly, as did one of vintage ones. But the 1909 E91 American Caramels -- OMG, as the teenagers say. It's divided into three sets, but they're all E91. So we decide it's three sets. The checklist is on the back, but sorted by team and not alphabetical. I can deal with that. But the names! Ahhhhh. There are nicknames and abbreviations I don't even understand. "Jno" is Johnathan! "Ambr" is an abbreviation for Ambrose, but of course he goes by Amby. There are "Chiefs" and "Heinies" and a "Jiggs," and a "Jap." And a high percentage of the last names are spelled differently on the card than in the history books. And Allen might be Alan. Fortunately, I knew that "Hans Wagner" was Honus. Ahhhhhhh!!!!!
I think it might be that names were more...fluid back then. Could be Delehanty. Could be Delahanty. People weren't as particular. Or something.
All I can say is that I had to look every player up on the database, using the name I had. When the name didn't appear, I had to Google the player as best I could and see what came up. Usually I found some actual or other name for the player, and then found that in the database. But what an ordeal.
I've got one more left to do. Trying to get to my 1000 points so I get more permission. Although, really, given the trouble I put the Admin to, I should be deducted points for my efforts. Hopefully, I'm improving.
Anyway, the point of this was not to whine (well, a little), or brag (maybe a little), but to thank those of you with hundreds of thousands of points who put in hundreds of checklists and did who-knows-what-all here. And to thank the Admin for tolerating and helping me through the process. You all are heros.

I agree with these sentiments. I haven't messed with checklists too much, but I have started verifying TIDs and PIDs under the "Things to do" tab. I'd also like to give a shoutout to vrooomed (Dan) for his help and patience with my ridiculous amount of questions. Thank you to all of you who help make this site the best on the web!
And v3, that sounds like absolute misery at times. Good on you for sticking through it and helping us too!

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Sounds just like my european sets I work on, find, search, google, fix ............... find, search, google, fix. About 10 to 50 times a day. ROFL Great work V3 as you do more it seems easier (no not gets!) and less time consuming but it is basically the same just that your more immune to the pain. Have fun with the final set bud. And then pat yourself on the back! =D

Great work. I've added many checklists, but nothing with the pain you experienced. Fantastic job to all who sludge through for this awesome site!

That sounds like the same kind of work it takes to figure out team names for NASCAR cards! The big, well-known teams are easy. It's the little teams and when teams merge together that get really confusing really fast. It's especially confusing when teams merge in the middle of the season. Then you have to know when the cards were released to know whether it should be the first team or the new merged team.
I applaud everyone who works on this site to make it as accurate as possible! I've done a bunch of work on here, so I certainly know how much effort it takes sometimes.

Jason - I might be weird (well, I know I'm weird, but for many reasons), but I truly enjoy answering people's questions and seeing other people being able to contribute so much to the site. When I see someone uploading a bunch of checklists after they were struggling, or when someone gets to upload their first checklist after trying 3 or 4 times, and it's because I looked at the file and gave them the pointers to get it correct, that's the stuff that makes my day.
Many years ago, I used to complain a lot, about anything and anyone. My wife pointed it out to me (actually, it was so long ago, it was before we were even married - and we've been married for over 22 years!), and I decided then to do something about it. I still complain sometimes, but not nearly as much as I used to. And then when I started on here (and also over on facebook), I saw that I was getting a little whiny again. No one said anything, but I saw it, and said to myself - if it's not going to help someone, don't say (or write) it. (That even goes for the RCotD - for the most part, I don't write anything because I don't have anything nice to say about quite a few of them.) I have found that I am a lot happier since I made that change. I always enjoyed teaching although I never became a teacher, I have been in plenty of teaching situations. I enjoy seeing other people do well, whatever it is they are attempting to do. It's a good place to be. :)

If it was before 2006, you can leave it for me. I pretty much have it all in my head for Cup. Why, I can't tell you, but I do. I have to look up some post 06 and I'm nowhere near as good with Busch or Trucks. I actually made up an Excel chart listing the card regulars and what years they drove for which teams for Busch. I've been working on the teams again the past couple days, though I have been very busy and have not accomplished a whole lot. I've taken more than 2000 photos since Thursday, over 1500 at my favorite car show this past weekend. By the end of this week I expect to take about 2000 more. When I run out of cards needing scans here... probably around March of next year... I'm going to focus my efforts on the NASCAR team listings. It's something I enjoy doing but not as much as scanning.
One of my "bucket list" items was shooting 1000 or more photos at a single car show...and I finally did it. I even got halfway to 2000. If my health allowed me to do more walking I think I would have this year actually.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Cup Series is pretty easy for me too. It's the Trucks and (now) Xfinity teams that get really confusing. I haven't done much for NASCAR teams lately b/c I was trying to wrap up adding the last of my NFL cards to TCDB (completed!) and got sidetracked with adding other info for some of those NFL cards/sets. I did take some time tonight to get back to one of the notes on my laptop about 2011 Wheels Element. I added all known teams for the base set and Black parallel. I also fixed the team cards to list each driver in the card name, instead of just the team. Unless you have a team name for 3 of the last 5 cards (Undiscovered Elements), I can handle that set and its parallels. I plan to wrap that up soon, but I have to stop for tonight.
Congrats on the massive amount of pics at the car show!

V3, I know what you are saying. I have done some of those checklists from the early days of baseball. Names and teams are difficult to get right. I have some reference books that have come in helpful in determining teams, the correct spelling of the names as well as the nicknames. But every one of them has to be looked up and confirmed in the database. A very long process and still no guarantee of getting it100% right. If points mattered, those checklists should be worth 10 times what modern day checklists award.
