Congrats! I have yet to begin scanning and adding checklists, but the process will begin soon.

So from this discussion and what I wrote, someone else took it as a cue to run up his poiints total by uploading the same back image of all of the Magic the Gathering sets. Probably doesn't even own a single card from any of the sets. Bravo.
This does bring back a qustion that I have often asked myself - when we see that there are over 2 million cards with images, does that mean actually individual cards or is it over 2 million images therefore maybe only about a million front images?

I think the 2 million card images means about 4 million actual images loaded (2 million fronts, 2 million backs). I don't know for sure, but I think that's how it was set up.

That's me! I added some backs... though it seems some others have added some too. And yes I do own some Magic cards ;) As for my milestones I have completed adding all my cards here... transplate from Beckett and Zistle. Uploaded all images of my various collections... mostly baseball. Lastly I started to work on some trading here and hopefully even more next year.

I collect Ken Griffey Jr., Ichiro, Leroy Herrmann, and Ty France RCs. I ship in bubble mailers (with DC#), cards in sleeves, cases and team bags unless otherwise worked out with trade partner.

If i have a card with a missing scan, im fine with the back already being there. Less work for me. In fact, I'm more likely to scan a card if only one side needs scanned. I hate scanning, by the way, but I do it sometimes.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

The reason I don't like this practice is that the percentage of images uploaded for a given set is then misleading. For example, if a set has 100 cards in it and you see that 60% of the card images have been uploaded, then you would assume that 60 cards now have a front and back image available to help identification of cards in your collection. But with the practice of those who have willingly identified themselves, a set like this would only have 20 front images loaded as the 100 back images would be 50 of the 60% showing. Now in this example, finding a front image would probably not require much searching. But in a set of over 300 cards where 50.5% of the images are loaded, it means that maybe 1 or 2 front images are available to help in identification (yes, this is where I have been frustrated in trying to identify a card to a set - I had to google it to find ANOTHER site in order to identify it). Those who uploaded all of the back images could not even be bothered in loading the sample card so that it would be available to help in identification. If I am driven to other sites in order to identify cards, then maybe this site is no longer the best site ever for all collectors.
One of the main reasons that I initially became a member to this site was that I found it to be a great source to identify mystery cards or obscure parallel issues. The images were the most helpful in confirming what I had. I eventually began to upload images (when I learned how and got a scanner) to help others who came to this site for similar reason (when asked, many found this site because they were trying to identify a card they had). In this way, I believe I am helping in making this site the best ever for all collectors. Though loading up literally thousands of the same back images will allow a member to climb up the Top Members list, in my opinion, the contribution to the site is almost worthless, is misleading and leads to frustration for others who initially come to this site.

A little xref here - this is why in my voting for the site awards, I largely ignored images posted (especially in certain instances where I know for a fact the member is known for uploading poor images found on the web) and looked at the really useful stats, such as checklists added and database edits made. Uploading crap images shouldn't get one an award.

Agreed with Dan on voting habits. One of the first major things I did when I joined the site was to crop advertising off a bunch of cards. Somebody had uploaded a bunch of scans and included their website info beneath the bottom border of each card. That person was up for some awards. They didn't get my vote.
