I can't place this card. I also have another card from the set, Al Schacht (#9/60). It says on the back it is a 1987 Conlon Premier Card Set Number 2 set, but I can't find it in the database. Anyone familiar with this set?

For what it's worth, this has to be one of the best bio write ups ever put on the back of a card!

Wow, I want to collect this set just to read the backs. Drink for drink, steak for steak, but no broads. Amazing. ------------------------------- I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Here you go: http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/99811/1987-Conlon-World-Wide-Sports-Series-2 Series 1 was entered using the super boring Beckett ID of "Conlon Series 1". I added the rest of the series as Conlon World Wide Sports Series #. Series 2 is from 1987, and Series 3-5 were 1988.

These mid-to-late 1980s Conlon sets are especially nice, in my view. Former archivist of The Sporting News (Paul MacFarlane) wrote the backs of the 1983 (1933 American, National & Negro League All- Stars) as well as the 1986 through '88 sets. While not as racy as Bob Meusel's card, MacFarlane's comments clearly indicate a thorough knowledge of both the ballplayers and baseball.
