Card Identification Forum

This was included as a freebie with a purchase my mom made a couple years ago- probably 2010 or so- and I've not been able to find it on the Database. Depending on how you turn the card, you see one of two players. Ovechkin is the one my scanner decided to pick up. I've tried searching for the set name, I've looked under both player's listings, and I've not been able to find it. Any help? Edit: Sorry for the typo in his name in the thread title. I can't edit-fix that. Edit 2: I forgot to add, the card is very flimsy, and is somewhat opaque in person- it's plastic, not cardboard.

It is part of the 2005-06 Upper Deck Rookie Showdown set. The only card issued so not really a set. Possibly a subset not listed under Upper Deck here. I have seen it listed as 2005-06 or just 2006. I would go under oddball for 2006.

I have this card thought I got it from a trade at first, then thought possibly from a group break. I did what I thought would be a difficult search through my TCC blog (Tradingcardcentral.com onsite blog my first "real" sports card blog) and discovered that I got it round about from a group break.. here is my entry for the card:

On Tuesday 05 February, 2008 I received in the mail my first card from a redemption from Upper Deck. I got the redemption card from the December Box Break of the Official TCC Hockey Group. The redeemed card was A 2006/07 Parkhurst Hockey by Upper Deck card #96 an auto from Boston Bruin Pete Peeters, it is an on card auto, not a sticker. Plus they sent a very cool bonus card. A 3-D flicker 2006 Upper Deck Rookie Showdown card of Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals).

UGH! So it still doesn't really explain, but maybe it was a through promo only thing. Bonus cards included with redemptions could be almost anything really.

I find it interesting that it was the result of my first ever redemption. I had assumed my first redemption was a football or baseball redemption. Ha it was Hockey.
