Wow. I"ve had this set since they came out when I built the set from a ton of packs (and originally from a box I think). If I recall the Dorothy Hamill card was the one that elluded me for a long time. I forget how many packs I had to go through and how many duplicates I currently have. I NEVER knew there were any variants (the database shows a mirror image variant for the back photo of one of the cards - head tilting to right vs. tilting left for Swimmer Charles Daniels). Man now I have to go through my duplicates sometime to look for this.
I don't know if they reprinted this or not. It might be that they had two different printing locations, or distributed them in two different ways.
The card on the right looks like they used a more "recent" or "now" photo. I had to do a quick search on Mary Lou to see if her hair was ever that late 80s permy or long for that matter. It looks like she did have that kind of hair style around 1988 which matches when this set looks like they assembled it according to the copyright from the Olympic Committee on the card. She looks like a cheerleader there and at first I thought they had used a cheerleader picture from the Lime Rock Pro Cheerleader trading cards.
I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies).
My Trade List is very much a work in progress
