I am a bit surprised they fired him. I thought Shildt did a great job of getting them back into playoff contention. That 17-game winning streak was fantastic. They won games in nearly every way a game can possibly be won. I loved how he got the team into that mindset and they went old school. Perfectly timed stolen bases and bunts, excellent player management, and defensive plans that worked to perfection. I think the main issue with the team this year was how to use the bullpen. He didn't always pick the right pitcher for the batters that pitcher would face. The whole pitching staff got better throughout the year, especially after some starters got healthy again and the additions to the staff from trades. Losing to the Dodgers in the wild card game has nothing to do with the firing, I'd guess. The Dodgers are the defending champs, with most of that team still intact and some awesome additions, and they now have more wins this year than any other team. As for who replaces him, I don't have a clue and don't really care until the team announces the new manager. Then I'll have an opinion.
