So far 88,000 evacuated, 10,000 to the north where the oilsands projects are and 70,000+ southbound as far as you can imagine. Our Microtel here in Lloydminster has given ten rooms for families from there for free until they can find suitable living. Wife said the first two families checked in tonight. Could never imagine that ...... and so far they say zero casualties within the city. There was a car accident on the highway southbound today which was scary as well, an SUV and a fuel or oil (?) tanker, caught on fire and had to use water bombers to put it out, almost another forest fire. Now that highway is shut down temporarily for the accident investigation.
It is profound the impact it has, I read an article on the Score's news app about two NHL players both who played thier junoir days in Fort McMurray (very BIG hockey town) and the one player Scottie Upshall actually played his minor hockey in the suburb that completely burned up, said he could barely play the hockey game the other night (he plays for St Louis) as he has so many ties to the city. Thankfully his monir leauge rink was supposedly spared. The stories and the impact will be many and lengthy. Thanks for the good words folks, makes a good canadian kid (44 still a kid ?) kinda get goosebumps.
