Happy new year, everyone.
I just want to point out a couple things we're doing on here and did.
In 2016 we knocked the sets with missing glossary definitions down to zero. We had strarted out the year at about 14,000 sets that needed to be cleaned up. Now, it's maintenance. I check daily (if not a couple times a day) and we pretty much keep it at zero.
We started really focusing on the Name Validation after that. We started in October with over 17,000 sets that had names to be validated. In less than 2.5 months, we've reduced that to a little over 11,000. That number in reduction is a little inflated as there were a lot of sets we cleared out simply by clicking on them (they had zero cards to validate). Still, I think we actually "worked" on 2/3 of them which means we did about 4,000 in 2.5 months. If we can continue at that rate, we should be able to finish in 2017, no problem. We added more new names in the last 2 months (6258 in Nov and 9262 in Dec). Again, to give you an idea of the magnitude of the work accomplished in the last 2 months, as a group, we added 51,359 names in the 22-month period of Jan 2015 to Oct 2016 (2,335 per month). We have an average of 7.767 per month these last 2 months. That's about 23% of the names added in the last 2 years happened in the last 2 months! That is an incredible amount of work.
The Team Validation hasn't been a focus, but that has also gone down in most of the sports even though the overall number went up because we added Racing to the mix.
The Missing Dates of Birth have skyrocketed, but that is because of all the new names recently added.
The sets missing checklists have gone down as well since the time I started keeping track (early August). Started at about 11,000 and we're down under 10,000.
All in all, the site is A LOT better today than it was on the first of 2016. Pat yourself on the back, you made it better. No matter what your contribution was, a scan, a fixed entry, a new checklist, even a bit of info in a forum thread, you've helped make this site better. Thank you. As a member of this site, I appreciate what you're doing to help. It makes it easier for me to work on my physical collection due to that work. And that's what this is all about. Keep it up. You're doing great!
Happy New Year!
