Cool! Got home after a very long day of working, checked the Cubs' box score and saw that some dude named Dovydas Neverauskas was pitching for Pittsburgh. HAD to be Lithuanian, so I immediately started my Googling. Indeed, he's the first Lithuanian-born major league player ever! Two innings, one earned run. Nice job. Gotta look for his rookie card.
If you haven't figured out my excitement, my mother was born in Lithuania. VVVergeer = Vytas Varekojis Vergeer. Very Lithuanian.
Yay!
Just checked. Wow, he already has four cards listed on here. But I'll wait for a major league card.

Vytas was a contestant on CBS's Survivor, he was on the show three different times I think. He was on once with his brother for sure. I can not think of his last name off hand.

Of course! I knew that. Played with his brother the first time. (Alas, I shamefully admit to being a Survivor fan). Shouldn't have assumed you got the spelling wrong. Indeed, he, too spells it with a "y."

That's what I love about the Pirates! They like to give everyone a chance. I remember quite a few years ago now, they had several Russian players that were trying to become the first Russian-born players in MLB. I believe they were also the team that had signed 2 or 3 players from India. Unfortunately, none of them made it all the way. Conversely, the guy the Pirates called up when they sent Neverauskas back to AAA (Gift Ngoepe) became the first player born in Africa (South Africa specifically) to play in the majors!
