I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

My first thoughts are Giants and Dodgers, but possibly the Cubs or Cardinals. Just throwing something out from my head. After all, we are talking 102 years before I was born. Most of my MLB knowledge only goes back to 1901 when the World Series started.

I just HAD to know the answer!!! So I checked it out. The technical answer is the Braves and Cubs! The Boston Red Stockings eventually became the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago White Stockings eventually became the Chicago Cubs. That helps explain the current names for the AL counterparts in those two cities!
The Giants joined in 1883 as the Gothams (Batman anyone?) and the Dodgers joined in 1890 as the Brooklyn Grays (can't believe I forgot the year they joined). The Reds also joined that year. The current Cardinals joined as the Browns in 1892 (I knew the team name, but not the specific year).
Since I ruined it, I think SunDevilCollection gets the win and asks the next question. He's the only one to get one of the 2 teams right!

A man has to have goals — for a day, for a lifetime — and that was mine, to have people say, "There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived."

A-ha. I had to look that one up. Hulbert kicked the Reds out of the NL for selling beer at their games, so they were in the AA for nine years and came back. I knew they were an original team, but either didn't know or just forgot about their brief expulsion.

Let's go with a simple one. I switched from football to baseball in college and have never looked back. My baseball career lasted 21 seasons and spanned through three decades. Over that span I played in 14 Midsummer Classics and 5 World Series (winning 4 of them). I won 2 WS MVP's and was the AL MVP once. I led the league in Home Runs four times. I ended my last year in the game with the franchise I started my successful career with. After being elected into Cooperstown, two of the four franchises I played for retired my jersey number.
