Thanks for the replys all, very proud of our display out here, we have added more again this year and the front trees and reindeer all dance to music that I play over FM for the people who come by to see. The hub of everything runs out of the little santa shack in the front yard. Its been brutal this year as the winter is a month early and working in the snow and cold is way more difficult than setting up on grass. =/ Oh well we shall see how it goes.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Pretty much right in the middle between DC and Atlanta. It's about a 6 hour drive to either. I can get to VA in a third of the time it takes to get to SC. Our normal lowest temps in this area are about 20F and usually in mid-January to mid-February.

That would suck! The only times I've been to the northern states were in spring or summer.

I thought I should bump this thread b/c it's about time to start taking down the holiday decorations now. Not happening here any time soon though! Thursday's high temp was 29F with a wind chill about 5 degrees lower in the middle of the sunlit hours. Coldest temps we've had in NC since last January! Friday is supposed to get up to 41F but then nothing above freezing for the next 5 days after that. We are hovering around and below the freezing point for HIGH TEMPS for a while. This is about a week and a half earlier than last year for a long cold snap, but at least there's very little moisture coming in the area this time. The snow that fell a few weeks ago was a bit of a surprise (even though it was in the forecast). This past January was brutal at the beginning with snow, ice, and consistant below-freezing temps after the snow fell, then it got mild for most of the rest of winter. We did have a late frost in the last week of March.
Even after the snow a few weeks ago, I'm not adapted to the freezing temps yet. We went right back into the 60's for highs last week and even the nighttime lows have been in the 40's since the snow fell. Now the lows are in the teens and have been there a few nights and will continue into next week! I know this doesn't sound like a problem/issue farther north of me (especially in Canada), but this is a big deal in NC and farther south. It's very possible that I could see my pond freeze over for the first time in about 5 years!

Addition to last night's post: My pond had a thin layer of ice over it at 2pm Friday and we hit the 41F mark for the high about that time. Weather forecast has changed to a high temp of 46F for today, but then 32 or less for highs for the next several days. I'm pretty sure the pond will have ice an inch thick by this time next week!
