I can't remember if I mentioned, but my DVR fried over the weekend. I was concerned because the Olympics start tomorrow. But when I got home from work, the replacement was waiting for me at my door. I missed out on free HBO weekend, and several days of TCM 31 Days of Oscar, but at least I won't miss the Olympics.
I know there are bigger disasters in the world, but my life is kind of dull.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I just got a new TV on Sunday. For the next two weeks I'll be trying to balance watching 4 sports...going to be tough. (I count the Olympics as one sport, for what it's worth). I will probably have one going on the TV and one going on the phone at the same time....although I don't think I will be able to focus on either fully.
My old TV died sometime between May and November 2016. I've been using my cable company's app on my phone since then. It's worked great and allowed me to get into hockey, but it is nice to have an actual TV again....and this one is a big upgrade. 32 inches and full HD...the one that stopped working was 12 inches and not HD. Had it since 2002. It just stopped turning on one day.

So funny I had to watch the whole thing...and then watch it again with my daughter. Sometimes we both suffer from first world problems.

Allow me to rant here. Not about anyone here, but to NBC. It has a little bit of "in my day" in it, but still, here it goes.
I don't have NBCSN. I'm okay with that and I know that if I really wanted I could do free trials on different Roku services such as DirecTV Now, Sling, and others. However, I choose not to because of one simple reason. I think its wrong that NBC is choosing to showcase most of their Olympic coverage on their sports network, and devote only Primetime and a few select hours on the Network broadcast. I'm not big into the Winter Games, but I want to watch Curling, Bobsled, and maybe some hockey. Sure NBC will show Bobsled, and luckily USA Network (which I do get) covers some Hockey, but 95% of Curling is on NBCSN. I know its a ploy to get you to get NBCSN, but many can't afford cable or other services. I'm not saying show everything on broadcast tv, I mean NBCSN is a sports network, I get it. But wouldn't it be beneficial for NBC to dedicate more time to their Network to Olympic coverage. Even if it is all tape delayed, people like me want to watch more than figure skating and speed skating. AHHHH!!! It's the same thing NBC and Fox are doing with NASCAR, and college sports is starting to do. Then they complain ratings are down. Sorry getting into a longer rant, but let me just say, I'm rooting for Team USA, but doubt I'll watch too much of it. Maybe by the time ATSC 3.0 comes around to most of the U.S., NBC will wise up and show more coverage on their Broadcast channel, even if it is just taped coverage.

Funny video. I just now saw the reply Dan. Because I was off the forums a few days because the advertising on this site was draining my phone battery. Now I see my tablet shows different ads so I can use this for the site. I guess I could have done this all along, but the tablet was dead, and the charger was in the living room, and the tablet was in the bedroom. Wow, I think I've become the guy in that song.

I'm completely with you on NBCSN and FS1/FS2. If I didn't have my current DirecTV package, I'd miss at least 60% of the NASCAR Cup races alone, not counting the NXS and CWTS. Everything CWTS is shown on FS1 or FS2 and has been for MANY years going back to when it was the Speed Channel. The broadcaster networks are the main reason for the ratings being down. For the 2017 season, NBC only aired 4 of the final 10 races (The Chase for the Cup - basically the playoffs) on the broadcast network. All 10 races were Sunday afternoon races, but they put 6 of them on NBCSN! NASCAR is also to blame though and it's not b/c of the contracts they signed with FOX and NBC. They make it impossible to see the broadcasts in any other way than the networks. We don't even have the option to pay NASCAR directly to see the race thru their website. We can pay them to LISTEN to the broadcast, but why would I do that when I can turn on the radio and listen to MRN on a few different stations? Listening to a race is the same thing as trying to listen to a basketball game on the radio. All your hear in either case is motors roaring or sneakers squeaking. Completely useless!
With several dozen sports networks available on TV of any kind, why are we so limited in being able to watch what we want to watch? To me, the worst part of what NBC is airing on the main network in primetime is that it's nothing I want to watch AND all other broadcasts are just showing stupid specials and re-runs I just saw weeks ago during the entire time of the Olympics. If it wasn't for TBS's re-runs of The Big Bang Theory, FXX's re-runs of The Simpsons and (now) Paramount Network's re-runs of Friends, I'd have nothing to listen to at work for basically this entire month. I can't "watch" TV while at work in the evenings, but I can still listen to it. Again, listening to sports really sucks. I'm not doing that, especially while at work.

awww Comcast owns NBC Universal whick owns NBC Sports and interest in half the cable channels one way or another. So by showing it on Cable channel did Direct TV and Verizon users miss out on it?
Is Disney (ABC) getting the Fox Sports branch too? I thought I seen where Fox will telecast Thursday Night Football next season or the one after.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

No. DirecTV has a contract with NBC Universal, so all of their channels also broadcast on DirecTV. I don't know about other providers though.
I think FOX, FX, FXX, FOX Sports and FOX News stay with NewsCorp. Disney is mostly getting the movie companies and licenses. I don't know what will happen with TV shows (such as The Simpson's) that are released under the 20th Century Fox Film Division name though. Fox WILL air TNF for the 2018 season. That has nothing to do with Disney or ABC anyway. CBS aired some of them last year and the year before. That is strictly a deal with NFL Properties to co-air the games so fans without NFL Network have a chance to see some of them.
