I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Switzr1,
I don't think it's the Wagner. I think almost everyone considers that unobtainable, so it doesn't have much influence. I think the size and variety of poses in the T206s carries a lot of weight. I'm coming around to them a bit.
My own approach to rating is to only rate sets if I own some of them. I'm not entirely sure that approach is terribly defensible. But now i need a Turkey Red....

I don't think rating sets a "1" just to bring the ranking down or "10" just to bring it up is the way to go. You should just rate what you actually think and everything will sort itself out in the end.

I Removed my previous reply because I keep looking at these T205 cards, and I'm starting to like them a lot more. I used to think the gold looked gaudy, but it's growing on me.
Also, jimmy jam summed up in a couple sentences what I failed to get across in two long paragraphs, where the voting part is concerned.

I'd still have to say the T206 set is ranked higher by people strictly because of publicity. Everyone knows about the T206 Wagner, including non-collectors. As for this site in particular 107 have T206's in their collection vs. 46 having T205's. Wantlists show 29 wanting T206s and 17 wanting T205s. Myself, I have 19 T206s vs 7 T205s mostly by virtue of the fact that there are more Cubs in the T206 set.
-------------------------------
My Autograph Collection Website Emphasis is on the 1969 Cubs. This is still a work in progress as is my collection here at TCDB. Value what you collect, don't collect for value.

The T206 set if you count every variation on the backs, factories and collor like Sovereign has green and apple green Old Mill has brown and black so the set is actually over 6,000 cards known to exist and more plentiful in that aspect
The T205 has the gold border but like someone said the gold ships off real easily I even have one card where some kid (most likely) or someone actually scrapped all the gold off the card. I would guess they thought it was real gold and try to cash in on it.
Once I finish my T206 set I plan on working on the T205 set, then maybe the 1914 General Baking set D304

First, why did someone have to revive this thread, thereby resurrecting my uncorrectable “live” error? It should say say “love.”
Second, thanks for the answers. I guess I get it, but I don’t agree.
Third, my tally is now 8-5, T205 to T206. I can handle some chipping. And I’ll never get all the cards I want in either set, so I’ll just keep collecting opportunistically. And now that I’ve taken a closer look at the American League and minor league T205 cards, there’s just no contest. They’re gorgeous.

Don't worry V3, we understand. I don't live the T-206. I live the T-205. Of course, I don't live them as much as I live my wife. Unfortunately, you'll probably never be able to love this down.
-------------------------------
Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
