I just got the 80 card box set, but the listings on the site are confusing me. It seems to me (at least with the pictures on the entries) that the 80 card set and the first 80 of the 110 card set are the same cards. Just that the 110 card set came with cards 81-110. Should these two sets be combined? Or are the pictures wrong for the 110 card set 1-80, or is there some difference I'm not seeing?

From Beckett about the 110 set, which was sold in a special box:
These cards are basically an update of the previously issued 80-card set issued earlier in the year.

This was after my time at Star, so I can't help on this one. (I only reply because inevitably, someone would say "vrooomed used to work there, ask him.")

These were not released by the company I worked for before these were released. I wonder if Star Int'l tried to sue. :)

Ok then why are 1-80 allowed to exist in 2 different sets? They are the same cards with no difference, so they are really 80 dupes.

I don't see the additional 30 cards (81-110) as any different than any other typical Series 1/Series 2 release. IMO, it should be one 110-card set.
You have to consider how they were released; I see now they were box sets (emphasis on "set"). These weren't packs, an 80-card box set was released then a 110-card box set was released. If combined then the owners of the complete 80-card box sets will not be able to catalogue a complete set, even though they own a complete 80-card box set.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I would have to agree. If what Beckett says is accurate, then the 80 card set had a late addition or extension to the set, making it a total of 110 cards. Not a completely different set.

Beckett also says the 110 is glossy. Not sure if the 80 is?

If it is true that one is glossy and one isn't then it would be two separate sets.
But you also have to consider how they were released; I see now they were box sets (emphasis on "set"). These weren't packs, an 80-card box set was released then a 110-card box set was released.
