1988 Topps Baseball Forum

I recently pulled this card from a factory set and the red background is missing from the bottom left corner all the way up to his throwing hand.  The dark of his stirrup, his leg, and his throwing hand are still visible.  The missing red is oval shaped, leaving a blank white background.  I have not been able to find anything about it or other images of it online.  It is like the McGwire white triangle error, but on a much larger scale.

Does anyone have any insight on this?  I can try and post a photo.  

What you are describing sounds like a printing issue where something dripped onto the card during the process. It is fairly common and usually doesn't hold a huge price premium.  There are variation collectors like myself that would have some interest in the card.

No I don't have any thing like that for the Nolan Ryan card. But I do have a VAR. of #451 Keith Atherton the box where his name is is orange, but I have one copy that is red like the boarder around him.and have another card where the outer black boarder is not complete the corner is not there.

Ive found the easiest way to post a photo of a card is to upload the photo to imgur, then click get link, then copy link....when writing the post/reply click the link icon to the right of the spellcheck icon (ABC), in the popup window paste the copied link from imgur in the URL box and the Display Text box, tap the Target tab and select "popup window" from the Target drop down menu, then hit ok. Then anyone can click that link and your photo will open in a popup window.

Or, after you "copy the link" from imgur and click on the "sunny mountain" icon on the TCDB forum entry box, add a ".jpg" (without quotation marks) and then I always set the width to 500 and click "Okay". Viola! pic is in the message.

i always had problems with the sunny mountain way. ill try to set the width to 500 next time.
