check out the position under his name, i was able to find all these different variations

The with or without period might be allowed but not the white blotch.

"What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?" Frank ranted. "He had 30 home runs and over 100 RBIs last year. He's got a rocket for an arm. You don't know what the hell you're doing."

To which Steinbrenner replied, "Buhner was a good prospect, no question about it. But my baseball people loved Ken Phelps' bat. They kept saying Ken Phelps, Ken Phelps."

Looking at it's shape, it's not a period.  

here i magnified it, it looks like a period and its on every copy ive seen of this card except the one i have above. interesting story, i got these cards off an old dealer in GA and these must be early prints because there were 6 FF cards in there too. 

My question is why is anyone studying a 1989 Fleer Jay Buhner card? Just kidding, I don't have an eye for picking up minor variations. If I have time I might see what my Buhner cards look like.

Well known variation despite what some of the misinformed on here will tell you. The version without the 'period' is the rarer of the two. A recurring print defect also affects the Buhners with a white mark nearby. 

But FYI, the Ripken FF was not corrected early, production ran for more than a month before the first correction attempt was made.
