Card# 476 Chris Hoiles has a "variant" that states there is a large gap in between All-Star game and the period. REALLY. This is a variant? Who in the world discovered this? Some guy in his basement or Fleer? Second question...why reprint it??? This just boggles my mind. I guess on the good side, I am one of the "lucky" ones that has three in their collection. lol.

I'm glad you pointed this out, because when I looked at the change log, I noticed a member erroneously removed Jeff Robinson's middle initial, which of course caused the card to link to a different Jeff Robinson. I fixed it. I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed out the Hoiles. Thank you.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Yes these OCD varients often baffle me. This reminds me of the talk about some of the Donruss 1990 "variants" with the player's name whether it has the black line through it or behind it. Are these "true" variants or just a result of a slight difference with the printing process? More ink in one step, or the order of inking changed, or the card stock slightly off in the press than normal.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

The 1990 Donruss was a true variant as they had the line go right through the letters. They went back and reprinted because of it. They also made several other errors in that set including the Nolan Ryan tribute cards with the backs switched, the reverse negatives, and the All-Star cards with "Recent Major League Performance" titling the stats when it was All-Star Game stats.

The differences on most of the fleer cards are obvious when you see them if you are putting a set together with cards from different sources.

Not to throw more fuel on the fire. But, if you check out the scans of the card backs, for both cards 476a and 476b, there is also a color variation. The bio box at the bottom on 476a is sort of a (cream color), while the bio box on 476b is (white).
What is it with Chris Hoiles and his 1991 cards? I have 2 different error cards of his 1991 Topps card #42. One is the (white border error on the front). The other is an error on the back showing (card #322 Ferrell Edmunds, from the 1990 Topps Football set with the disclaimer).
I love this stuff!

To Whom it May Concern:
I really wish you guys would leave us ERRs/VARs/CORs card collectors alone. There is always some negative post that allows other members the chance to thread chip in. We really enjoy what we do. There is no other area on TCDB that gets more negative press than these cards, oh wait....Other Collectibles is right in the race as well, LOL.
Thanks for reading, ~BOB~
